<p> Unit 2 Study Guide: The Middle Ages</p><p>Directions: Answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper. These questions are review and will help prepare for your unit 2 exam. Your exam is either Tuesday 11/21 (pd. 2/3) or Wednesday 11/22 (pd. 6). This completed study guide and all missing/late work is due on the day of your exam! </p><p>1. What was feudalism? Explain how it worked. 2. Explain the similarities/differences between European and Japanese Feudalism. 3. Describe the characteristics and purpose of a Medieval castle. 4. What powers did the Catholic Church have in Medieval Europe? Be specific! Include religious, political, military and economic power. 5. What are monasteries and convents? What are they used for? 6. What was the Black Plague? How did it spread? How did it affect Europe? 7. What was the Inquisition? How did it work? 8. What was the Magna Carta? Who signed it and why? 9. What was the Byzantine Empire? What were its successes? How did it end? 10.Describe the Arabic Empire. Include their rise to power and important achievements. 11.Explain the beginning of the Crusades – two sides, outcome, power of church vs. monarchs, etc. 12.Describe the First, Second and Fourth Crusades (focus on their outcomes) 13.What were the effects of the Crusades? 14.Explain the causes and effects of the Hundred Years’ War. 15.Describe the role of Joan of Arc in the Hundred Years’ War. 16.Who was Genghis Khan? What were his strengths? 17.Describe the Mongol Empire. Include important people and advances. 18.Who were the Aztec people? What did they believe? 19.Who were the Inca people? What did they believe? 20.What did the Aztec and Inca have in common?</p><p> To start exam  Writing portion – respond to one prompt out of three. You are being assessed on content knowledge. Within your response, you will need to answer five specific questions (worth 20 points)  Then  Multiple choice portion – answer 50 questions about content, geography and vocabulary. o clergy, cultural diffusion, clan, monarchy, dynasty, heresy, chinampas, etc  Your study guide is due on day of exam!  Remember, in order to be eligible for test corrections, you need to be present on day of exam!</p>
