<p>Writing Assignment An Original Satire</p><p>Compose and present an original satire based on a topic of your choice. You may present this satire as a written short story, a play/skit, an interview transcript, a song, a poem, or a “mini” graphic novel/comic strip. Whatever format you choose must address each of the following criteria. </p><p>Requirements for all students:</p><p> The satire should address a social or political issue or concern. For a social satire, your topic does not have to be something widespread; it could simply relate to a quirk of human behavior. Politically, it does not have to be a global or national issue; it could be a strictly local issue.</p><p> The satire should offer some kind of criticism that addresses this issue.</p><p> The satire should present this criticism through the use of the comedic devices we have been studying in this course. </p><p> The satire will be free of grammatical and spelling errors.</p><p> The story should be entertaining and humorous.</p><p> The satire should meet the specific level requirements.</p><p>In class we will be watching an interview, a television show and a skit in addition to reading some poems, listening to some songs, and looking at some cartoons. All of this will be done so that you can evaluate these varying formats of satire and decide which format you would like to create on your own.</p><p>See the back for level and format requirements. Level Two Requirements:</p><p>Format choices: Short story, a play/skit, an interview transcript, a song, a poem, or a “mini” graphic novel (6 panel minimum).</p><p>Comedic Devices: There must be a total of 4 devices present, 3 of which are irony (any type), allusion, and exaggeration. </p><p>Writing Minimum: Short stories, interview transcripts, and skits/plays must be at least 2 pages, but no more than 4. Poems and songs must be accompanied by a a minimum, 350 word/maximum, 500 word reflection of your work. Graphic novels must have a an illustrated cover, at least two pages with at least three panels per page, and dialogue and narration on each page. </p><p>Level Three Requirements:</p><p>Format choices: Short story, a play/skit, an interview transcript, a song, a poem, or a “mini” graphic novel (6 panel minimum).</p><p>Comedic Devices: There must be 3 comedic devices, 2 of which are irony (any type) and allusion.</p><p>Writing Minimum: Short stories, interview transcripts, and skits/plays must be at least 2 pages, but no more than 3. Poems and songs must be accompanied by a a minimum, 350 word reflection of your work. Graphic novels must have an illustrated cover and at least two pages, each with 3 panels. Both dialogue and narration should be present in the whole work. </p><p>Level Four Requirements:</p><p>Format choices: Short story, a play/skit, an interview transcript, a song, a poem, or a comic strip.</p><p>Comedic Devices: There must be irony (any type) and exaggeration. Any additional devices will be bonus points. </p><p>Writing Minimum: Short stories, interview transcripts, and skits/plays must be at least 1 ½ pages. Poems and songs must be accompanied by a minimum, 250 word reflection of your work. Comic strips must have at least 3 panels. Both dialogue and narration should be present. </p>
