In addition, the NWS has issued a High Wind Warning for Door County. Communities in Door County have experienced wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour. The strong winds should begin to die down late this evening. Wisconsin Emergency Management, Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) and the Wisconsin Public Service Commission have been working with local officials and the utilities impacted. At this time, there has been no request for any state assistance.</p><p>Door County - The strong winds have knocked down numerous cell towers and power lines including a main transmission line. Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPSC) has crews working to restore power to the area. They are not sure how long it will take to get the main transmission line back up and it could take up to 24 hours to restore all the power in the area. </p><p>Door County Emergency Management reports the Red Cross has opened three shelters. They are located at the Fish Creek Fire Station and at the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove North and South Fire Stations. In addition, they have opened a feeding station at the Liberty Grove Village Hall. Door County Emergency Management also reports that cell coverage is spotty. </p><p>DHFS reports that a public health nurse will be located at one of the shelters. They are also checking with area medical facilities and nursing homes to see if they need assistance. </p><p>Other Power Outages – The Wisconsin Public Service Corporation also reports some scattered power outages in Northeastern Wisconsin as a result of downed trees and power lines as a result of the strong winds and heavy wet snow hitting the areas.</p><p>For further information, contact Wisconsin Emergency Management at 608-242-3232.</p>
