<p>Job Profile Core job information</p><p>Job Title Animal Technician</p><p>Institute Barts Cancer Institute Centre Centre for Cancer & Inflammation Career Family Technical Services Grade 4 Working Hours Full-Time Appointment 2 Years in the first instance period Reports to (job title) Centre for Cancer and Current location Charterhouse Square Inflammation, CII, Lead and Group Leaders in CII</p><p>Job purpose </p><p> To assist and provide technical support for research within the Centre for Cancer and Inflammation, Barts Cancer Institute, specifically for in vivo animal-based research. The post will also include the collection, processing and organisation of tissue samples for the animal experiments done in the Institute. The post-holder will be expected to be responsible for data entry on the samples. The postholder will also be responsible for collection and processing of data for Home Office returns and taking an active role in amendments of the Centre’s Project licence. To work as part of the Institute’s technical team, being mutually supportive and covering duties as necessary during colleagues’ absences and at times of additional pressure, as directed. The post is based at Charterhouse Square but working in other locations in London will also be necessary. </p><p>Knowledge, Skills & Experience</p><p>Essential/ Requirements Desirable Qualifications 1. NVQ level experience/equivalent in Animal Technology 1. Essential 2. Membership level of the Institute of Animal Technology 2. Desirable 3. BSc or equivalent in a biological discipline 3. Desirable 4. Technical training/qualifications in animal handling and 4. Essential procedures 5. Registered animal technician 5. Essential 6. Personal licence - Modules 1 -5 6. Desirable Experience 7. Background in mouse technical work and husbandry; 7. Essential mouse procedures such as breeding for complex mouse models, basic surgery, injections and autopsies 8. Experience in histology and genotyping 8. Desirable 9. Experience in working in a laboratory, preferably in a 9. Essential hospital, medical school or research environment 10. Understanding of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 10. Essential 1986 11. Familiarity with experimental research especially cancer 11. Desirable research 12. Strong background in in vivo mouse experimentation 12. Essential especially cancer models 13. Strong background in management of monitoring mouse 13. Desirable breeding especially genetic mouse cancer models 14. Experience of in vivo imaging 14. Desirable 15. Experience of record keeping 15. Essential</p><p>Knowledge, 16.
