Grade Sheet for the SHM Lab

1. Cover Page / 5 points

2. Data: use tables / 15 points a. Spring Mass i. Part I (mass and position) ii. Part II (mass, time for 10 oscillations) b. Pendulum (length, time for 10 oscillations)

3. Graphs / 30 points a. Spring Mass Part I (graph & spreadsheet) b. Spring Mass Part II (graph & spreadsheet) c. Simple Pendulum (graph & spreadsheet)

4. Calculations: / 15 points a. Calculation of k for Part I b. Calculation of k for Part II c. Calculation of g

5. Results: organize your results correctly / 9 points a. Value of k for Spring Mass Part I b. Value of k for Spring Mass Part II c. Value of g for Simple pendulum

6. Error Analysis: / 6 points a. Percent difference for the values of the k from part I and part II. b. Percent error for the value of g

7. Questions: / 20 points

8. Total: /100 points. Things to consider

1. Check your data before leaving. If your data is off or does not make sense, retake it. Consecutive measurements, that are going to be used to calculate an average, must be within a reasonable range from each other. Points will be deducted if this is ignored.

2. The report must be typed and in correct order. Points will be deducted from the total, if the above sequence is not followed.

3. Make your graphs large in excel. Devote an entire page to the graph. Also graphs must have titles, the axes must be labeled (have titles) and the axis must have units. Finally, the graphed information must be presented in an easy to understand way.

4. Spreadsheets must follow the established format. That is, put borders around your data and make sure you print your spreadsheet with gridlines. Also select only data area as the print area in excel.

5. All questions must be included. Please use correct grammar and spelling when answering the questions. Also, all questions must be answered using complete sentences. Questions that required calculations to be answered may be handwritten. However, all handwritten answers must be neat and organized; otherwise, they will not be graded.

6. As always if your percent error/difference is high, include a brief explanation in you error analysis portion. Ignoring high percent errors will cost you points.
