CALL TO ORDER 11 12 President Claire Cesareo-Silva called the meeting to order at 2:03 p.m. 13 142. INTRODUCE AND WELCOME GUESTS 15 16 Patricia Flanigan, Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Dan Walsh were 17 welcomed to the Senate. 18 193. ADOPTION OF AGENDA 20 21 Kris Leppien-Christensen (SBS) moved; it was seconded and passed by voice vote to 22 approve the adoption of the agenda. 23 244. ADOPTION OF MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING 25 26 Kris Leppien-Christensen (SBS) moved; it was seconded and passed by voice vote to 27 approve adoption of the minutes from the April 26, 2006 meeting. 28 295. PUBLIC COMMENTS 30 31 Patricia Flanigan, on behalf of the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, 32 recognized the hard work done by Claire Cesareo-Silva in her capacity as President of 33 the Academic Senate of Saddleback College. Dean Flanigan thanked the senators for 34 the hard work done this year, and praised the Academic Senate for its work as the 35 “keeper of quality education.” 36 376. PRESIDENT’S REPORT 38 39 President Claire Cesareo-Silva reported the following: 40 41  The BGS Building will remain open during the Fall semester of 2006. 42  An e-mail from Chancellor Mathur to President Richard McCullough regarding 43 the letter to him from the ACCJC was distributed to the Senate. 44  The Academic Senate has requested 9 LHE reassigned time, an increase of 3 45 LHE, for the President, and 3 LHE reassigned time for the Past-President. </p><p>2 1 3DRAFT DRAFT 46 Chancellor Mathur met with the presidents of Saddleback College and Irvine 47 Valley College on May 9th to discuss this matter. A recent state-wide survey of 48 the Academic Senates revealed that in 70% of colleges, the Academic Senate 49 President received more re-assigned time than the Saddleback College Academic 50 Senate President. Despite the survey results, Chancellor Mathur has directed 51 District Researcher Scott Simpson to research this issue. 52  The Transfer Celebration will be held Thursday, May 18th at 5:30 PM. 53  Commencement will be held Friday, May 19th at 10 AM. 54 557. APPROVAL OF CONSENT CALENDAR ITEMS 56 57 Kris Leppien-Christensen (SBS) moved; it was seconded and passed by voice 58 vote to approve faculty to serve on committees. 59 608. OLD BUSINESS 61 62 A. College Vision, Mission and Values 63 64  The Proposed Saddleback College Core Values was distributed to the Senate for 65 comment and revision. 66  The Saddleback College Vision, Mission Statement, and Goals was distributed to 67 the Senate for discussion. 68 69 B. Senate Plenary Report 70 71  A copy of all of the resolutions that came before the Senate Plenary for action, 72 and the action taken (passed, failed, or referred) was distributed to the Senate. 73 749. NEW BUSINESS 75 76 A. MySite Changes 77 78  Jim Gaston presented to the Senate changes being made to MySite. 79  Mysite is being completely re-designed to make it more user-friendly for 80 students and faculty. Navigation will be simplified. Users will be able to add 81 their own content to their MySite home page. 82  It is hoped that the revised MySite will be up and running by Fall 2006. 83 84 B. 2005-2006 Senate Goals 85 86  Eight of the nine Senate goals were achieved. 87  Progress is being made on establishing procedures for implementing the 88 contracted Tenure Review process, the ninth goal. 89 90 C. Summer Meeting Schedule 91</p><p>4 2 5DRAFT DRAFT 92  It was decided that the Senate will tentatively meet on June 28 and July 19 at 2 93 PM. 94 95 D. Delegation of Authority – Senate Executive Committee 96 97 Susan Nawa (HSHS) moved; it was seconded and passed by voice vote to 98 delegate authority to the Executive Committee to act on behalf of the Academic 99 Senate in the event that quorum cannot be reached during a regularly scheduled 100 meeting for the summer 2006 term. 101 102 E. Senate Leadership Awards 103 104  President Cesareo-Silva distributed certificates of appreciation to senators and 105 other members of the college community in recognition of their leadership and 106 commitment to faculty, staff and students. 107 108 10. College, Division & District Committees 119 120 Miki Mikolajczak (CSSP) reported that more than 200 guests are expected to attend the 121 Pre-Graduation/Transfer Celebration. The transfer institution currently is known for 150 122 of the students; others have not yet decided where they will transfer or heard back from 123 schools to which they applied. 124 12511.
