<p> 2015-2016 COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS Below are the descriptions of the committees listed on the previous page. Please take a moment to read through them to help you make your decision as to which committees would work best for you. Every effort will be made to place people on the committees they request. </p><p>ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED TO JOIN THE RJ LOCKHART PTA!</p><p>Please note that the descriptions below more or less describe the duties of a committee chairperson, if you are interested in assisting on any of the committees by becoming a member your responsibility would be whatever time you could offer! COMMITTEE NAME DESCRIPTION & DUTIES ARTS IN EDUCATION (C) Brings quality programs into the school (curriculum related grade level performances and school wide as well) to help enrich the students through the Arts. BACK TO SCHOOL BBQ Arranges annual back to school barbecue for Lockhart community. Distributes tickets, set up, clean up and September running the event the evening of the barbecue. BINGO Coordinates after school bingo games for our children. Involves advertising the event, collecting the fee, set 1st Friday Oct, Nov, Dec up and clean up, running the games and supervising the children. BIRTHDAY BOARD Maintains our monthly colorful birthday board display so that students can see the name of their fellow monthly classmates and teachers celebrating a birthday that month. BLOOD DRIVE The committee hosts a Blood Drive twice during the school year to help replenish the LI Blood Bank for those in need. Works with the American Red Cross and our class mothers to coordinate the blood drive and October/Spring schedule donors. BOARD OF EDUCATION Attends all school board meetings and report back to our PTA. A great way to keep informed about REPRESENTATIVE what’s going on in the district.</p><p>BOOK FAIR One evening Kick Off and 3 days. Responsible for reserving the book company for the Book Fair, advertising the event, set up and clean up, and running the Fair. You must be available during the school day to attend January the fair.</p><p>BOY’S NIGHT OUT Plans the event so that our mothers and their sons can enjoy a period of togetherness and fun. Involves spring advertising, collection of money, distribution of tickets, set up, clean up and running the event.</p><p>BOX TOPS Incentive program where children hand in the box tops from General Mills and Betty Crocker products and in return classes are awarded prizes. The funds generated from the box tops are then used to purchase recess equipment for the children. Involves cutting and counting box tops, and preparing and mailing submissions for Year round reimbursement. (C) Working with the Massapequa PTA Council Committee, the committee reviews the proposed school BUDGET budget, making recommendations to the Administration and reporting back to our PTA members. CURRICULUM (C) Works with the Massapequa PTA Council Committee and the Asst. Superintendent of Curriculum. The committee looks into the present curriculum and possible ways to improve or enhance it. ELECTION DAY BAKE Solicit volunteers to bake and sell the goods at Election Day. Includes advertising the event, and running it the SALE November day of the bake sale.</p><p>FALL FUNDRAISER Distributing brochures and order forms, collecting and counting all orders and monies for accuracy and arranging for pick-up of final orders. FIELD DAY Plans and organizes Field Day - Lockhart's biggest one-day event. Must have excellent organizational skills, June be able to delegate assignments and oversee all aspects of this wonderful event. Training provided.</p><p>HALLOWEEN DANCE Responsible for planning and running the after school (early evening) school wide Halloween party. Involves advertising, ticket sales, decorations, refreshments, set-up and clean-up, and running the event. </p><p>HEALTH , WELLNESS & (C) Works with the PTA Council Committee on such items as the school lunch menu and current health SAFETY issues, child abuse/neglect, abductions, cults, suicides, bus safety, fire safety, evacuation procedures, substance abuse. Requires monthly meetings with reports being brought back to our PTA meetings.</p><p>HOLIDAY SHOPPING Contacts company for consignment items to sell at the Holiday Fair. Includes pricing and tally of all items and monies. Set-up and cleanup during the three-day sale. Shop for, set up, clean up and plan the refreshments for all PTA meetings, other PTA functions during the HOSPITALITY year, and some school events which we support.</p><p>JR./SR. Acts as a liaison between the committee and the elementary and Jr/Sr PTA. This is a great committee if you REPRESENTATIVE have a child in Lockhart and Bemer/Ames/MHS. Requires attending monthly meetings and bringing reports back to our PTA meetings. KIDSTUFF BOOKS Orders and distributes Kids books to the school population. Also responsible for collecting money & unsold September books. KINDERGARTEN Assists with kindergarten orientation. ORIENTATION KINDERGARTEN Responsible for planning and running an afterschool welcome party for the Kindergarteners. Involves sending WELCOME PARTY out invitations, decorations, refreshments, games, music, set-up and clean-up and running the event. (C) Works with the PTA Council Committee on such issues as State Aid, Education, Health, and LEGISLATION Massapequa Day in Albany, etc. Requires attending monthly meetings with reports being brought back to our PTA. Organizes our annual membership drive. Maintains membership records, tally money, membership, and card MEMBERSHIP distribution. Involves working with class mothers. Training session will be provided.</p><p>(C) Works with the Massapequa PTA Council Committee & MSD Administration. Such topics as parenting, PARENTING AND guidance, dating, "Growing Healthy", etc. are discussed and ways are found to educate parents in these FAMILY LIFE fields. Works with M-Tract to prepare for Parent University (Provides parents with a forum to learn and share information, feeling & concerns regarding parenting)</p><p>PARP (C) Creates and implement a theme to encourage students to read during a 3-4 week period. There are prize (PARENTS AS READING PARTNERS) drawings, contracts to hand out and incentives. Must be able to tally class participation. Training available.</p><p>PLANT SALE The chairperson is responsible for ordering plants prior to sale. This is a 3 day event. Committee people must May be available during the school day for those three days. REFLECTIONS (C) This is a National PTA Cultural Arts Competition. You distribute flyers, collect entries, arrange for judges, present winning entries to region judging, and organize an award ceremony. SCHOOL BOARD REP Attends the bi-weekly School Board Meetings and report back at our PTA meetings. Coordinates the school pictures in October and in the spring. Involves arranging flyers to be distributed and SCHOOL PICTURES helping day of photo shoots. Chaperones the students during their Tuesday lunch period while they buy school supplies at the school SCHOOL STORE store. Involves setting up, collecting monies and packing merchandise up at the end of the sale each Tuesday. You must be available 1-2 Tuesdays per month depending upon the number of volunteers that sign up for this committee. SCHOOL SUPPLIES Responsible for coordinating on-line sale of prepackaged school supply packets for the fall. Arranges Spring packages with company, flyers to go home and oversees orders. SEPTA DELEGATE (C) Attends the monthly Special Education PTA meetings and report back at our PTA meetings. Updates the sign in the front of the school with our monthly PTA calendar of events. Performed once a SCHOOLSIGN month. Distributing brochures and order forms, collecting and counting all orders and monies for accuracy and SPRING FUNDRAISER arranging for pick-up of final orders. SPIRIT WEAR/ LOCKHART Responsible for ordering and distributing school merchandise. MUST be able to help sell it at MERCHANDISE school functions and help distribute it when it arrives Year round Coordinates a welcome back Lunch the first week in September. Coordinates special things for our faculty STAFF APPRECIATION each day of the week for Teacher Appreciation in May. SWEETHEART DANCE Organizes all aspects of the dance (selection of theme, invitations, food, drink, decorations, DJ, etc) You will April need to collect money, distribute tickets, set and clean up, and running the event the evening of the dance. TALENT SHOW Organizes the 3rd – 6th grade talent show usually held in February. Involves coordinating practice dates, February selling tickets and refreshments at the Talent Show.</p><p>(C) = COUNCIL COMMITTEE -- A Council Committee is a Committee of the Massapequa PTA Council.
