Contribution: the act of giving or doing something 4. Government: a group of people who make rules and laws, carry out rules and laws, and decide if rules and laws have been broken. 5. Laws: rules people live by 6. Direct Democracy: a government in which people vote to make their own rules and laws 7. Representative Democracy: a government in which people vote for (elect) a smaller group of citizens to make the rules and laws for everyone – a republican form of government 8. Characteristics: different traits 9. Economic specialization: focusing on one product or service. Specialization encourages trade because people want goods and services that they do not have. 10. Economic interdependence: two or more people depending on each other for goods and services</p><p>Location:  Cities were built on the hills.  Ancient Rome was located next to a river.  The soil was limited for farming.  A variety of trees grew in Ancient Rome.</p><p>Government:  Republican (representative) form of government.  A representative democracy.</p><p>Art:  Mosaics  Paintings  Sculptures</p><p>Architecture:  Famous for the Coliseum and aqueducts (which carried water to the cities), arches.  The Romans built an extensive network of roads and arches to connect their vast empire. </p><p>Human Characteristics:  The people of Ancient Rome build ships, fished, and made pottery.  They farmed on hillsides. **Ancient people made contributions that affect the present world.**</p><p>Contributions of Ancient Rome in:</p><p> The Coliseum and aqueducts (arches) Architecture</p><p> Republican (representative) form of Government government;  a representative democracy </p><p>Mosaics and sculptures are displayed on the buildings.</p><p>Human  Farmers Characteristics  road builders  traders</p><p> located next to a river Physical  city built on many hills Characteristics  limited rich soil</p><p> farmed on hillsides Adaptations to  trading took place on the Environment Mediterranean Sea</p><p> building ships Economic  farming Specialization  making pottery</p><p>Economic  traded with Egypt and other Interdependence nearby communities Economics:  People and regions often specialize in the production of certain goods and services.  People trade when individuals or groups benefit from the trade.</p><p>Rome Test: 4-27-16</p><p>H.M.
