<p>Allan Hancock College Classified-Clerical Human Resources Range 12</p><p>COUNSELING SERVICES TECHNICIAN – NON CREDIT </p><p>DEFINITION Under supervision of Dean, Student Services / Counseling and Matriculation the incumbent will perform a variety of student services related functions at one or more extended campus sites; serves as first point of contact with students and the general public.</p><p>CLASS CHARACTERISTICS The incumbent, under limited supervision, will perform clerical, technical and student services work involving the interpretation and application of policy and procedures to provide support and guidance to students, staff, volunteers, and the general public. </p><p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Responsible for front office duties to assist students, staff and the general public. 2. Researches and gathers data to process forms, summaries, and reports. 3. Explains and promotes district courses, programs and services. 4. Assists students with year-round access to student portal site. 5. May serve as a liaison with external agencies in report filing and communication. 6. Assists students in the preparation of class schedules. 7. Accepts and verifies forms for completeness and accuracy. 8. Maintains and updates mailing lists, staff appointment calendars, and appropriate web pages. 9. Assists in maintenance of attendance and budget account records. 10. Prepares purchase requisitions and work orders; verifies received merchandise. 11. Assists counselors in establishing and maintaining counseling files. 12. Performs related duties as assigned.</p><p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles of good customer service; Office management techniques and organizational skills; Written business communications; Information processing applications and production; Ability to read, write, speak and understand Spanish and English.</p><p>Demonstrated ability to: Plan, organize, and complete assigned work independently and within established time deadlines; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Organize workload and establish priorities; Learn and interpret specific rules, laws, and policies and apply them with good judgment in a variety of procedural situations; Operate a computer keyboard to perform clerical and technical work with accuracy and speed; Compose and proofread correspondence independently. Education and Experience: An Associate Degree in Computer Business Office Technology with emphasis in secretarial or word information processing, or related subject matter equivalent to completion of the 12th grade, and two years of increasingly responsible clerical and secretarial experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Bilingual Spanish/English oral and written communication skills are required.</p><p>Working Conditions: Duties are primarily performed in an office environment; The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday; The incumbent will have contact in person, on the telephone, or by e-mail with staff and the general public.</p><p>Physical Demands: Typically may stand or sit for extended periods of time. Regularly lifts, carries and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds.</p><p>Special Qualification: A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.</p><p>R 02/14</p><p>05/13</p>
