<p> JOB DESCRIPTION</p><p>GARDEN CENTRE ASSISTANT – F/T Overview Eggesford Garden and Country Centre, Eggesford, Chulmleigh, Devon, EX18 7QU is a busy independent garden centre. This is a full time role (5 days per week) working on an agreed rota to include one day at the weekend. A degree of flexibility to cover additional seasonal activities such as watering is expected. The role includes general work around the garden centre under instruction from senior staff, plant care, serving customers both on the till and in general around the centre, pricing and stocking of goods and assisting customers to and from their vehicles with plants / pots / compost etc. Knowledge of plants and gardening, either through practical experience or formal qualifications is required for this role. As the role includes moving stock and assisting customers an appropriate level of physical fitness is required. Whilst the main elements of the role are described below it may be required that other duties are taken on from time to time after appropriate discussion with the Garden Centre Managers.</p><p>Specific duties include: 1) Providing general assistance to customers in the Garden Centre – advising customers on the solutions to their gardening needs, providing help and advice on plants, advising on where to find stock in the shop etc. 2) General care and watering of plant stock. 3) Receiving / unloading deliveries of plants and other stock. 4) Pricing up and stocking shelves / plant benches / other areas using stock control sheets as advised. 5) Serving on the tills (training will be provided). 6) Helping to ensure that customer service is maintained at a high level. A neat and tidy appearance and a polite manner are required at all times. 7) Cleaning and tidying activities in the garden centre. Some of this work will be outside – to include plant maintenance / weeding / watering / pruning and outside cleaning and clearing jobs. 8) Carrying goods to and from customers’ vehicles. 9) Assisting at “events” under guidance from Garden Centre staff. 10) Deliveries to customers.</p>
