<p> ELHT Foundation School Individual Placement Description </p><p>Placement FY1 in urology</p><p>The department The Urology Directorate at ELHT covers two main sites – Royal Blackburn Hospital (RBH) and Burnley General Hospital (BGH). The department comprises 6.5 urology consultants who provide urology services to a population of ~460,000. All aspects of general urology care are provided, as well as specialties such as uro-oncology, endourology and functional urology.</p><p>There 4 SpRs from the North West rotation (reflecting a high commitment to training), 1 Senior Fellow, 1 CT1, 2 FY2s and 3FY1s. </p><p>The department at RBH is fully integrated with the outpatient, ward and office unit all on one contained unit. The ward (C22) has 32 beds. </p><p>The department is an accredited centre for the Lancashire & South Cumbria Cancer Network. </p><p>The type of work to expect and The FY1 will be jointly responsible for the learning opportunities management of patients on the ward. The FY1 is develop experience in managing the following:</p><p>- day to day urology on the ward - common urological emergencies - haematuria, elevated PSA, common cancers,</p><p>The FY1 also encouraged to make the most of large number of learning opportunities provided by the following regular activities: -theatre (cystoscopies, daycase urology theatre) -clinics – haematuria, PAC, prostate biopsy clinic, general -basic ultrasound</p><p>Educational opportunities -weekly dedicated urology teaching (Friday morning) -completion of one audit project</p><p>There also is a weekly protected surgical teaching programme on thursday afternoons. Where the placement is based Urology department including:  Ward C22 and Urology Unit (RBH)</p><p>Clinical Supervisor(s) for the Mr Neilson, Mr Wemyss-Holden and placement Mr Srirangam Main duties of the placement  Daily management of urology inpatients  Attending urology clinics and theatre</p><p>Between the three FY1 doctors, there is a 3 week rotation. For two weeks the FY1 doctor is mostly ward-based but on the 3rd week (‘floater week’) there are no ward commitments and the FY1 is released to attend urology clinics and theatre sessions.</p><p>Typical working pattern in this Daily WR (Mon-Thurs) at 0730 hrs placement Mostly urology ward-based, but with a ‘floater’ week every third week to attend other urology sessions.
