<p> Valley County Job Description</p><p>Job Title: Marine Deputy Revision Date: February, 2015 Reports to: Marine Sergeant FLSA Status: Non-exempt</p><p>Job Summary</p><p>Under the direction of the Marine/Recreation Sergeant, the Marine Deputy actively seeks to maintain the safety and well-being of all persons who use the waters of Valley County and protect associated property and property owners. This position promotes boater safety through education, public assistance, and enforcement of boating laws and regulations. Successful Marine Deputies are comfortable in working in marine and on the water environments.</p><p>Duties and Responsibilities</p><p> Perform pre-inspection and post-operational duties on boats, equipment, etc.  Use basic mechanical knowledge to and work on patrol boats and equipment.  Inform the boating public of marine laws and safety procedures.  Operate patrol boats, trailers, trucks and other miscellaneous equipment in and out of the water.  Perform cleaning, fueling and servicing duties on all marine equipment.  Maintain logs, reports, and other necessary paperwork.  Use radio communication equipment to maintain contact with dispatch and marine supervisors.  Issue citations for violations and provide written and oral documentation in support of violations.  Board and inspect boats and other watercraft as specified in operating procedures.  Provide assistance to any vessel in distress, remove and/or mark boating hazards.  Performs investigations of accident scenes.  Performs investigations of minor and major crimes.  May be required to appear in court to give testimony.  May perform public service information workshops on marine safety to schools, civic groups, etc.  Responsible for working safely and in compliance with Safety rules at all times.  Must be able to develop and maintain working relationships with the public, fellow employees, and supervisors.  Must be reliable and arrive to work on time.  Other duties as assigned.</p><p>1 | P a g e Marine Deputy – February 2015 Qualifications</p><p> High School Diploma or equivalent.  Must be 21 years of age or older.  At least 2 years of proven work experience.  Must be able to work in a marine environment.  Must be able to work submerged in water using proper safety equipment.  Must be able to pass a basic swim test.  Must be able to pass P.O.S.T. physical fitness requirements.  Ability to become basic first aid and C.P.R. certified.  Successful P.O.S.T. Marine Deputy certification preferred.  Considerable knowledge of safe boating operations, laws, and ordinances.  Knowledge of Valley County waterways.  Knowledge of basic mechanical operations, functions, and repairs.  Ability to work flexible hours.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  Ability to safeguard confidential information.  Ability to learn laws and procedures quickly.  Ability to deal effectively with the public in controversial, emergency, emotional, and stressful situations.  Ability to operate law enforcement vehicles and equipment.</p><p>Working conditions and physical demands</p><p> Exposure to out of door temperatures, day and night.  Exposure to stressful and volatile situations.  Must be in good physical condition to walk, stoop, stand, sit, lift, reach, run or swim.  Must be able to hear, speak, and see.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.  Must possess a valid Idaho Driver License by employment date.</p><p>Employee Signature: Date:</p><p>Supervisor Signature: Date:</p><p>2 | P a g e Marine Deputy – February 2015</p>
