A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor and Loving Memory of Phyllis Eileen Martin Grigsby

<p>UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 05/09/18 12 SPEC. SESS. 12 SS BR 28</p><p>A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Phyllis Eileen Martin Grigsby. WHEREAS, on August 9, 1934, Phyllis Eileen Martin Grigsby was born to the late Sam Martin, Sr., and Nora Newsome Martin in East McDowell, Kentucky. In her younger years, she was always by her father's side whether perusing bookstores or cheering on their teams at baseball and basketball games; and WHEREAS, her enthusiasm for sports continued into her youth as Mrs. Grigsby was a cheerleader and majorette for McDowell High School until her graduation in 1952. Her high school years were also filled with the arts, where she excelled at dance, stage, and song, regularly starring in school plays and programs. Mrs. Grigsby's passion for the arts continued at the University of Kentucky, where she was a soprano in the UK Choir; and WHEREAS, during this time, Mrs. Grigsby met and fell madly in love with the star athlete at her school's arch rival, Martin High School. Shortly after being baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she married Elhanan Pete Grigsby, Jr., in the Martin Church on July 7, 1954, and seven days later they were wed in the Idaho Falls Temple; and WHEREAS, from then on, Mrs. Grigsby's priorities revolved around her dearly loved husband and their growing family, relentlessly supporting each one's pursuit of their dreams. She served on the Floyd County Library Board for many years and served her church in a number of ways, from being Relief Society President to Sunday School teacher. She was also a voracious reader and loved to travel; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Grigsby departed this earthly life at her home in Minnie, Kentucky, on April 15, 2012. While she leaves behind a grieving family and community, they will always remember her as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, caring sister, and enduring friend to all she met; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Grigsby is preceded in death by her parents, Sam Martin, Sr., and</p><p>Page 1 of 2 BR002800.100 - 28 - 70 Jacketed UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 05/09/18 12 SPEC. SESS. 12 SS BR 28</p><p>Nora Newsome Martin; her sister, Betty Jean Martin Wellman and her husband Robert; and her brother, Sam Martin, Jr., and his wife Marguriette. She is survived by her dear brother, Julius Martin and his wife Mary Rose; her beloved husband and eternal companion, Elhanan Pete Grigsby, Jr.; her three precious children, Melinda Gay Majakey and her husband Lee, Geri Eileen Grigsby, and Elhanan Pete Grigsby III and his wife Michelle; her five cherished grandchildren, Meredith Majakey Sleight and her husband Steve, Lauren Ann Majakey, Erin Leigh Majakey, Elhanan Pete Grigsby IV, and Nyla Katherine Grigsby; her two treasured great-grandchildren, Gabriella Melinda Sleight and Thomas Lee Sleight; and her many dear in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:</p><p>Section 1. The Senate expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and deepest sympathy upon the passing of Phyllis Eileen Martin Grigsby and extends its sincere condolences to her family, friends, and community.</p><p>Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Phyllis Eileen Martin Grigsby.</p><p>Section 3.
