<p> NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED </p><p>NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH SIGNS POLICY AND APPLICATION FORM </p><p>Watch Scheme Signs Policy</p><p>1. Only Watch Schemes approved by North Yorkshire Police may apply for street signs to be erected. 2. If signs are to be erected on public highways e.g. on street furniture and lighting, approval must be obtained from the Highways Authority. 3. Signs are of a standard design in a range of sizes and must not be altered in anyway. Approved signs are only available from North Yorkshire Police. 4. Members of the Watch Scheme will be responsible for the erection and maintenance of the signs. 5. Signs erected within the highway shall be erected to the satisfaction of the Highways Authority which will inspect them free of charge and then cover for Public Liability. 6. Signs must not:</p><p> exceed an area of 0.2 square metres (approximately 18” x 18”)  be displayed in excess of 3.6 metres above ground level at their highest point  be attached to any road warning or restriction sign (e.g. speed, bend etc)  have the lowest point below 2.1m (6’ 9”) above ground level if erected adjacent to a footpath or any area used by pedestrians.</p><p>7. The Police and Highways Authority accept no responsibility regarding the condition of signs. Should the approved signs be damaged, vandalised or become otherwise degraded, the removal or replacement is responsibility of the Watch Scheme members. 8. If a Watch Scheme ceases to operate, signs must be removed within 14 days, and the County Surveyor and North Yorkshire Police notified accordingly.</p><p>NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED </p><p>How do I apply for Watch Scheme Signs? The application herewith needs to be completed by a Co-ordinator and actioned as explained as follows: (a) Replacement of existing signs (for erecting on highways, public land and private land)</p><p>Providing that appropriate approval is already held from the Highways Authority and the signs which are the subject of this application are to replace existing signs (including size, etc) that have become damaged, or otherwise degraded, then submit the application for the attention of Business Admin Services at one of the following Police stations designated to your District:</p><p>Scarborough Police Station Harrogate Police Station (Ryedale & Scarborough Districts) (For Harrogate & Craven Districts) Northway Beckwith Head Road Scarborough Harrogate YO12 7AD HG3 1FR</p><p>Northallerton Police Station York Police Station (Hambleton & Richmondshire Districts) (York & Selby Districts) 72 High Street Fulford Road Northallerton York DL7 8ES YO10 4BY</p><p>(b) New application for signs to be placed on private land (ONLY) Complete the application form and submit it to the designated Police Station for your District (see above).</p><p>(c) New application and / or new locations on highways or public land Where signs are to be sited on highways or public land you need to submit a COPY of the application form to the Highways Authority at North Yorkshire County Council, Racecourse Lane, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, DL7 8AD (Do NOT send to local Highways Offices) and take the following action:</p><p>1. To request approval to erect the signs, you must include a map identifying where they will be placed, including lamp standard number if applicable. Printed maps are preferred (e.g. www.google.co.uk/maps) but sketch maps can be submitted to the above mentioned Highways Authority. 2. Once you have a written approval from the Highways Authority, send the approval with this form, that will include your details and the quantity, size and type of sign required (for York City centre areas highlighted in pink on the map, only signs on a white background may be used and are only available in one size) to the designated Police Station for your District (see above).</p><p>(d) Delivery and erection of signs Your signs will be delivered to you for you to erect in accordance with the policy. You are required to advise the appropriate local planning authority that the signs have been erected. NHW Members will be covered by Public Liability whilst undertaking this task.
