Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue Presentation and Talk

TECHNICAL LARGE ANIMAL EMERGENCY RESCUE PRESENTATION AND TALK

Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM (EDT) Berkshire Humane Society (Classroom) 214 Barker Road Pittsfield, MA 01201

TLAER is a course created by Dr. Rebecca Gimenez that involves the Considerations, Behavioral Understanding, Specialty Equipment, Techniques, Methodologies and Tactics behind the safe extrication of a live large animal from entrapments in local emergencies and disaster areas. "Large animals are different" says Dr. Gimenez, "they do not follow rules of physics or chemistry – but instincts of fight or flight under fear and stress. Innovation is often required by rescuers as each incident and rescue operation is different than the last one. Prevention, Safety and Education is a huge theme of the TLAER courses because as animal owners and stakeholders learn to prevent the common types of incidents, focus can be shifted to the unusual and highly technical ones." TLAER focuses on horses and livestock because that is what we more commonly encounter - however, the term large animal can also refer to exotic or zoo animals. Berkshire DART thanks Dr. Gimenez for allowing Tracy Crosby, A EMT, Volunteer, and Co-Owner of Four Seasons Stables at Tabletop Farm in Lanesborough, to use these slides to educate Berkshire DART Volunteers and area Responders. PLEASE NOTE: • Some of the slides in this presentation are of a graphic and potentially upsetting nature • Students completing any/all levels of TLAER training understand they are not being certified as TLAER Interns, Assistant Instructors or Instructors. • TLAER, Inc. is a corporation, the TLAER Logo is a registered mark, the materials and ideas covered in this course or distributed to students are copyrighted as the intellectual property of Dr. Rebecca Gimenez, of TLAER, Inc. • Event image is a painting by Artist David Pavlack

Berkshire Disaster Animal Response Team (DART)
