Those who are able to attend should sign up ASAP so that Jeannie can get an idea of what people are bringing.

Listed Email  Everyone should check the email they have listed on myNevada, in case they are not receiving any notifications.

Elections  Officer elections will be held in March but we want to start thinking about it.  If anyone wants adjustments to the election process they should let a current officer know.  We are thinking about putting together an election committee to oversee the election process. . The committee would consist of volunteers who are not interested in running for office.  Election changes will need to be made by the February meeting.

Reminder About Student Concerns  There has been some progress made with student concerns. The progress has come from students talking to faculty about their concerns. As a reminder, feel free to talk to your advisor or Dr. Morgan (Graduate Student Director). Dr. Morgan’s door is always open and he is willing to answer any student questions or concerns.  By talking to your advisor and Dr. Morgan, we can keep the faculty in the loop.  Lisa Lee noted that it is important to provide positive feedback as well.  If a member is really enjoying their experience working with a professor, they should consider writing a letter on their behalf. It may help them when they go up for promotion.  Feedback does not always have to be negative.

Committee Service  There was a friendly reminder that members can join more than one committee. So if anyone is interested in joining another committee, they should feel free to do so! Faculty Meeting  The faculty had two guests present, thus Amanda’s time in the meeting was limited.  Take away: faculty gave positive feedback on many of our events/activities planned this semester. Kudos to all grad students who participated in planning any of our semester events.

Funding Chris Maier Snack Room  The snack room had a slow week last week but we make on average $30 a week.  If we run out of something you like, or if you think of something you’d like to see in the snack room, please let Chris know.

Funding Committee Meeting  The next funding committee meeting will be on Wednesday, December 2nd, at 1 PM.  This meeting will focus on getting donations for the Bash. . We need to get started on this ASAP. . Funding committee needs more help, specifically in regards to seeking donations. Anyone who is interested in assisting with this effort should attend this meeting. . If anyone has connections to places that might be willing to donate, they should let Chris Maier know.  Immediate Need: The Funding Committee needs help reaching out to ski resorts in the area for donations. If you have suggestions or know of someone who could help with this effort, please see Chris.  Chris handed out a copy of our donation letter and the email template that will be used when seeking donations.  Anyone who has edits of either document should plan to bring those to the next funding meeting. Next meeting is planned for Dec. 2nd.

Restaurant Fundraising Night  We are considering doing another fundraising night at a local restaurant.  However, the last time we did these they did not turn out well. We need more input from our membership on where they would like to see future fundraisers. We are hoping this might work to increase participation. . Suggestions should be sent to Chris Maier.  It was suggested that we do a fundraiser dinner ourselves, maybe a spaghetti feed.  There are some logistic things that we’ll need to figure out if we want to do this. For example, we’ll need a kitchen to make the food.  It was also suggested that we may be able to do some sort of breakfast fundraiser. Maybe something like a bake sale with just donuts.  We may also do a fundraiser at EZ-Laser Tag (In South Reno).  They’ll give us 40% of the money raised.  But we would have to choose between doing laser tag or the Jump Gym on the other side of their complex. They do not allow fundraising to be done on both sides, so we would have to pick one or the other.

Our Account  Side note: the restaurant nights/additional fundraisers are being discussed, so we can pad our bank account further. The hope is for us to have plenty of money in our account to pay for the Bash upfront, instead of having to pay the day of the event.

Notes from the VP Marielle Black Secret Santa  We are doing a Secret Santa this year.  Names will be drawn on Friday, November 20th and Monday, November 23rd. . People who want draw their names on Friday need to see Amanda Williams and people who want to draw names on Monday will need to see Marielle Black.  The Secret Santa will go for a week starting on Monday, November 30th. . There will be a $20 total spending limit for the week.

Birthday Cards  We are changing the way we do birthday cards.  There will be an envelope sent around with the birthday card a week or so before the birthday.

Bios  Bios are up now.  However, there have been some issues. . Some of the profiles have shifted and some of the pictures are too big. . Also, the profiles for all of the new students are up but there are not any links to their pages yet. . These issues are being worked on and should hopefully be fixed soon.  Anyone who has not yet submitted a bio should do so ASAP!  There is also an alumni section on our page. We will be adding info on our alumni later.

Journalism Committee Victoria Swenson Newsletter  The committee is currently scheduling their last meeting of the semester.  The newsletter will still be published online on December 4th.  The committee is still waiting on some of the articles to be submitted.  Anyone who has publications they want to add to the newsletter should send them to Victoria Swenson. . All of the ballots were returned to Victoria for counting.  The winning name is “Field Notes”!

GSA Dave Harvey and Leo Demski  Graduate breakfasts have resumed.  There is a proposal to increase the tech fee for graduate students.  This will help to pay for more tech support.  A discussion will take place among the GSA council in the next two weeks on whether the graduate student body is in favor of such a move or if they oppose the increase in tech fees. . To give feedback on this issue, see Leo Demski or Dave Harvey.

Professionalism Committee Marielle Black Committee Update  There are only a few members left in this committee.  The committee is planning events for next semester.  They are planning on providing events that are not available elsewhere.  There will be a doodle poll to determine what people are interested in attending.  The Professionalism Committee is also responsible for sending out invites for the Bash.  The committee needs help reaching out to professionals to attend the Bash. . We will also be sending out thank you notes.

Lecture Committee Dave Harvey Guest Speaker  The committee is currently evaluating the suggestions for the next speaker in our speaker series.  The committee suggested the goal is to aim to bring the next speaker in by the Spring of 2017, rather than the Fall of 2016. We want to avoid overlap and conflicts with other departmental speaker series.  We have also been approached by the faculty about helping with a couple of guest lectures in the fall of 2016. The committee is working with the faculty to figure out how the club will be participating in these future events. More info is TBA.

Spring Brown Bags  The spring brown bag scheduled has been finalized.  The committee has received more suggestions for brown bags.
