How to Set up a DDNS

How to set up a DDNS

What is a DDNS?

Dynamic DNS or DDNS is a method of updating, in real time, a Domain Name System (DNS) to point to a changing IP address on the Internet. This is used to provide a consistent domain name for a resource that may change location on the network.

A DDNS will enable you to log in to your DVR with a simple host (domain) name, e.g. example.dvrdydns.com instead of using a numerical IP address, e.g. 71.246.106.94. Since a public IP address can change, using a DDNS is recommended to always update and redirect to your consistently changing public IP address.

Besides resolving the dynamic IP issue, setting up the DDNS usually makes it easier to remember a customized domain name for your DVR/NVR remote access address, than remembering a numerical IP address that might change over time. Quick Guide to Set Up Your DDNS Service (Must use a PC at the same location/network/IP to configure your DDNS)

To begin setting up the DDNS server, go to: http://www.dvrdydns.com/. Click on Registration and fill out the form on the page. Then click Submit.

Please take note of the User Name and Password that you register, as this information will be used at a later step. At the next screen, enter a relevant name, such as the name of the business or the user’s last name and first initial or something easy to remember. Click Request Domain.

Please note here that the complete domain name we have chosen is example.dvrdydns.com which will be applied at a later step. Your domain will be different, please make note of the domain you have chosen. Set Up Your DVR For DDNS Service

Go to the DVR, right click on the screen and click Main Menu.

At the Main Menu, click on Setting. Click on Network.

At the bottom of the window, in the Network Setting box, scroll down to DDNS. Check the box and double click the option. Select the Private DDNS option and click the checkbox for Enable. Under Server IP enter dvrdydns.com. For Domain Name, User Name and Password, enter what was registered in the earlier steps.

Click OK and your DDNS/IP will update.

You have now setup a DDNS on your DVR. You will be able to use the Domain Name to log onto the DVR from anywhere you have internet.
