<p>DIRECTIONS: Each student will create an advertisement to recruit settlers for Stephen F. Austin’s Colony. Read the section titled “Austin Readies His Colony”, on pages 164-165 to find the required information for this project. This project requires you to use illustrations (pictures, diagrams, maps, charts, etc.) in order to appeal to the settlers to come and settle in Austin’s Colony. Each advertisement should include the following:</p><p>1. A Slogan (10 POINTS)</p><p>2. Price of Land per acre (20 POINTS)</p><p>12.5</p><p>3. Amount of Land available for each colonists and their family (25 POINTS)</p><p> head of household 640 acres, married men 320, per child 160 acres, slaves 80 </p><p> acres</p><p>4. Guidelines and requirements for the colonist applying for land (25 POINTS)</p><p>Catholic, Mexican citizen, hardworking, law abiding</p><p>5. A map showing the location of Austin’s colony (10 POINTS) </p><p>Show a map that has Austin’s Colony between the Brazos and Colorado River Valleys</p><p>6. A description of the land (10 POINTS)</p><p> mild climate, plenty of timber for building, wild game, & fertile soil</p><p>7. BONUS!!! What items should the settlers bring with them to Texas!!</p>
