*PRESS RELEASE*

At the recent Alaska Municipal League Annual Local Government Conference, held in

Anchorage during the week of November 17th, the organization’s top award was given to the current Mayor of the City of Kodiak, Pat Branson.

Nominations are submitted by municipalities throughout the State for those elected officials who go above and beyond their duty as local elected officials. The Vic Fischer

Award, named after one of the few remaining members of the first constitutional convention, is to honor those elected officials who have made a difference on a statewide basis. Mayor Branson certainly fills that bill. Her award came as the result of a vote of her peers and awarded to her by Vic Fischer, himself at the award banquet during the conference.

Mayor Branson has been a Kodiak elected official for over 16 years. She served 12 years as a Kodiak Island Borough Assembly member and was then elected to the City of Kodiak Council in 2010. In 2011, she was elected Mayor and continues to serve in that role. She has been an active member of AML during her entire length of service.

She has been most active in state transportation issues and senior issues. She has received numerous awards acknowledging her work and advocacy for aging Alaskans and with the Alaska Mobility Coalition whose mission is to represent public, private and community transit providers in Alaska.

The entire Kodiak community, as well as the state, is fortunate to have a public-minded

Mayor and advocate such as Mayor Pat Branson.
