<p> THE MAEGENE NELSON VISITING SCHOLAR PROGRAM IN CROSS-DISCIPLINARY ARTS</p><p>Application Procedure: Each unit can nominate up to two visiting scholars (or multi-scholar groups) per year. Nominees should contribute significant involvement well above the usual one or two day duration, i.e., expenses (travel, support, stipend, etc.) for the visit will exceed $5,000 up to the maximum amount available (eventually, approximately $12,900 annually). Nominations require a standard application form with attached résumé(s). Send completed applications to the associate dean / director of the Fine Arts Doctoral program, who submits them to the Graduate Committee for discussion and ranking. These recommendations are reviewed by the CVPA Awards & Research Committee, which, following discussion, issues its own independent recommendations to the dean and the director of the program, who will make the final selection (or selections, to allow for possibility of failed arrangements). In order to integrate visitors within existing curricular activities, completed applications are ordinarily due to the CVPA no later than January 20 of the second year preceding that proposed for the visit. This timeline allows completion of the selection process approximately 18 months prior to the visit. Special requests (e.g., to carry forward an approved visit that did not come to fruition within the projected timeline, or to approve a project planned more than 2 years in advance) will be considered on a case-by-case basis. </p><p>Application Form Instructions: Complete form using 12-point font, double-spaced lines, and 1-inch margins. 1. (4 pages maximum) Explain how visitors will be integrated with existing curricular offerings, discuss ways in which expertise is likely to impact students, and identify segment of graduate population most likely to be affected. (For example, students involved in FADP core, students involved in specific major or concentrations, all CVPA graduate students, etc.). 6. What type of public presentation is planned? Identify primary audiences addressed by the presentation(s). 7. (3/4 page maximum) Summary or additional factors for consideration. 8. Budget: breakdown expenses into categories; identify source of funding within categories if proposed budget exceeds that available via the Maegene Nelson Visiting Scholar Program; identify agent responsible (within categories) if collaborative assistance is requested (e.g., X type of Publicity—CVPA dean’s office). </p>
