<p> Book of the Month Activities</p><p>The Way I Feel</p><p>By Janan Cain</p><p>Vocabulary: Emotion Words</p><p>Silly thankful scared disappointed happy</p><p>Angry sad jealous shy bored</p><p>Frustrated excited proud</p><p>Language Arts:</p><p> Have students make a list of words that are synonyms and antonyms; Sad, happy, angry</p><p> Discuss with students the rhyming words that are in the book; night light, cry try, crowd proud</p><p> Discuss with students the adjectives: describing words</p><p> Have students make a list of the contractions words that are in the book. I’m = I am, can’t = can not</p><p>Writing:</p><p> Have students write about their personal connections to an emotion. </p><p>I feel ______when ______</p><p>I express this feeling by ______</p><p> Have students create a shape poem. </p><p> Journal Response: When do you feel . . . .</p><p>Text to Text Connection:</p><p>Compare this book to the book by Dr. Seuss – My many Colored Days.</p><p>Social Studies:</p><p> Discuss with students the emotions and how we deal with our emotions.</p><p> Create collogues of feeling using pictures.  Have students describe themselves using symbols instead of words, for example use a rainbow to show you are happy; a raindrop to show you are sad.</p><p>Math: </p><p>Create a graph of your feelings. Using the graph have students determine which one has more, less, equal. How many more, less? </p><p>Science:</p><p>Dramatic play: Discuss how emotions and feelings are a natural part of life and it is normal to have lots of different feelings. Make a list of feelings and brainstorm different ways people express these feelings. Discuss the positive and acceptable ways that we express feelings at home and in school. </p><p>Pair up students and have them role play the different emotions while a second group tries to guess the emotion that they are acting out. </p><p>Give each student a mirror. Call out a feeling for situations which would evoke an emotional response. Allow students to look in the mirror while demonstrating these expressions. Ex: Someone took your favorite toy and now it is broken.
