I have to work late.</p><p>KELSEY: Oh, Mom, I just remembered – the Awards Banquet for Oral Interp & Debate is tonight.</p><p>MOM: (blindsided) Tonight? Seriously? Did you write that on the calendar? What time?</p><p>KELSEY: Uh, seven to, like, 8:30, I think. Oh, and we need to bring a main dish and a dessert.</p><p>MOM: What! Kelsey, you have to let me know about these things with more warning! Does your Dad know about it?</p><p>KELSEY: I’m not sure…</p><p>MOM: Well, send him a text. He’s not supposed to be home until late this afternoon.</p><p>KELSEY: OK. Sorry, Mom.</p><p>MOM: (flustered, rushing out the door) It’s alright. I’ll think of something. Love ya’.</p><p>KELSEY: (Singing) Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Here comes the sun Here comes the sun, and I say It's all right…(then turning to TEACHER)</p><p>TEACHER: Kelsey, I wanted to talk to you about your homework I mean, the quality of work I’ve been seeing lately is way below what I’ve come to expect from you and way below what I know you’re capable of. What’s going on?</p><p>KELSEY: I don’t know. I’m just busy, I guess.</p><p>TEACHER: Well, you need to make your schoolwork a priority. Can you stop by after school today and I’ll help you get caught up?</p><p>KELSEY: Maybe for a little while. I’ve got track practice after school. TEACHER: Alright, I’ll see you then. Hey, Kelsey, are you okay?</p><p>KELSEY: Yeah, I’m fine.</p><p>KELSEY: (Singing) Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Here comes the sun Here comes the sun, and I say It's all right…(then turning to TEAMMATE)</p><p>TEAMMATE: (walking up to her) Kelsey, why weren’t you at practice yesterday? Coach was really mad! The Region Meet is less than two weeks away and we’ve got to work on our handoffs! We’re counting on you as the anchor! What’s the matter with you?</p><p>KELSEY: Nothing, I’m fine.</p><p>KELSEY: (Singing) Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter It's been a long cold lonely winter…(then turning to FRIEND)</p><p>FRIEND: Hey, Kels. How’s it going? </p><p>KELSEY: Fine. (starting off, avoiding) I’m late for class.</p><p>FRIEND: I’ll walk with you. I’ve noticed you just don’t seem to be yourself lately. I’ve noticed some changes in you and I’m a little worried about you. Are you okay?</p><p>KELSEY: I’m…</p><p>FRIEND: (finishing her sentence) Fine. (stopping her, holding her by the shoulders) I know, you’re fine. But see, I’ve been you’re best friend since second grade, and I’m concerned about you. And just in case you’re not fine, I want you to know that I am here for you 24/7. Call me, and I’ll be there, because I love you.
