The Military Spouse and Family Legacy Association Is Spearheading an Effort to Erect A

AUXILIARY POWER

During this holiday time let us be mindful of those in uniform and particularly of those families at home observing the holidays without their loved ones in uniform.

National Monument Military Spouses & Families The Military Spouse and Family Legacy Association is spearheading an effort to erect a national monument in Washington, DC honoring American military spouses and families. Legislation was introduced authorizing such a monument in 2007. The monument will reveal the history of the wives who followed their husbands onto battlefields of the Revolutionary War; those who toiled in back-breaking jobs to build tanks and planes in defense plants of World War II; the once forgotten families who fought to bring their POWs home from Vietnam and the parents who keep vigil at the bedside of the wounded warriors of the Global War on Terror. Photos & Stories The Military Spouse and Family (MILSFLA) historical project is collecting stories and photos of military families throughout our history. This is your opportunity to share the real-life experiences of the military family. Stories will be shared at the above (monument) site, and may someday be in print for all to see! Take a few moments this holiday season as your families gather together to go through old family photos and letters and share stories of the past with younger family members. Share your stories at [email protected] and email your photos to [email protected]. The Military Spouses Legacy Association, Inc. was founded in 2007 by Nicole Alcorn, herself a military spouse and the daughter of a military widow, and Karie Darga, of Norfolk, who lost her husband, Paul, in Iraq. The association has created a 501(c)3 that will be responsible for collecting the private donations that will fund the construction and maintenance of the monument.
