<p> Hypothesis Testing Project Statistics, Spring 2011</p><p>Chapter 9 discusses Hypothesis Testing, and to wrap up the chapter we will be conducting an experiment or survey and use hypothesis testing to conclude the results of the experiment or survey. You will be working in groups of two on this project. The project includes deciding on a good research question, collecting data, analyzing the data using graphs and numerical summaries, performing hypothesis testing, and using this information to answer your original question. This project will be handed in as a written report, complete with charts, tables, and other applicable graphics. You will also present your findings to the class through a verbal report and visual aids. </p><p>Your question should (1) compare two population means, (2) compare two population proportions, (3) compare a single population mean to a specific value, or (4) compare a population proportion to a single value. An example of each is provided below:</p><p>(1) Question: Are grade point averages higher among seniors than among the high school population? Hypothesis: The mean GPA among Seniors is higher than the mean GPA of the high school population. </p><p>(2) Question: Do the proportion of freshmen playing 5 or more hours of video games a day have a lower GPA than the proportion of freshmen playing less than 5 hours of video games a day? Hypothesis: The proportion of freshmen playing 5 or more hours of video games a day have a lower GPA than those who play fewer video games. </p><p>(3) Question: Are there more than 100 referrals submitted each month? Hypothesis: The mean number of referrals per month is at least 100. </p><p>(4) Question: Does 50% of the student population text in class on a daily basis? Hypothesis: More than 50% of the student body texts in class. </p><p>Your Project Should Include: 1. Summary of question, hypothesis, and method of data collection 2. Copy of survey and survey results organized into a table and/or graphic 3. Summary of collected data, including calculated histograms, box plots, sample sizes, means, medians, standard deviations, etc. 4. Copy of hypothesis testing calculations 5. Project Summary of the project, procedures, and findings Steps to Complete Project: 1. Choose a question and hypothesis. 2. Propose a method of data collection. 3. Approve data collection methods with Mrs. Beard and other administrators. 4. Construct your survey and consent form. 5. Collect your data. 6. Organize and analyze the data. 7. Make sure you include those items listed above (summaries, tables, hypothesis testing calculations, etc.) 8.
