Initiative: Key Punch

INITIATIVE: BLIND POLYGON

Rope

Bandanas

GOAL  For the group to use a rope to form a geometric shape while blindfolded.

SET-UP  One length of rope and bandanas for each participant.

STORY & RULES: Recommend NO time limit, but if schedule is restrictive, 15-20 minutes is best. The group is briefed after they are blindfolded and a length of rope is laid down behind the group with bitter ends close to each other, but not tied together. At this point the group should be told what the task is. You may or may not elect to use the entire rope. 1. The entire group must be blindfolded from beginning to the end of the exercise. 2. All participants must remain within the pentagon at all times. Note: a variation is to have all non-point members end up in the exact center of the polygon.

SAFETY  Participants should be made aware of the area before becoming blindfolded. Use common sense and spotting if necessary while participants are blindfolded. Stop action or step in if it does not look safe!

PROCESSING/DEBRIEF  Exclusion due to non-participation of some members either willing or unwilling; frustration resulting from exclusion; need for clear communication dramatically highlighted.
