Provides on-the-job experience while earning credit toward an associate degree.</p><p>MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:</p><p>Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:</p><p>1. Discuss and demonstrate the interrelatedness of school and work.</p><p>2. Interview for job placement.</p><p>3. Write a resume</p><p>4. Write a cover letter.</p><p>5. Apply skills learned in the workplace.</p><p>6. Gain knowledge of business protocols, ethics, standards, punctuality, courtesy, and appearance.</p><p>7. Develop vocabulary and language of occupation related to internship.</p><p>8. Validate technical career decision.</p><p>9. Write an experience paper. ACC 280 -CO-OP/INTERNSHIP Page 2</p><p>COURSE CONTENT:</p><p>Course content is dependent upon the nature of the topic material presented. </p><p>Students will create a cover letter and resume. They will also learn knowledge of business protocols, ethics, standards, punctuality, courtesy, and appearance. The student will take the skills learned and apply them in an actual work environment. </p><p>ACADEMIC HONESTY STATEMENT:</p><p>The College is committed to academic integrity in all its practices. ACC 280 - CO-OP/INTERNSHIP Page 3 METHOD(S) OF DELIVERY:</p><p>112 contact hours, including 96 work hours and 16 in-class hours.</p><p>MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES TO BE SUPPLIED BY THE STUDENT:</p><p>Required Text: Lamarre, H., Career Focus, A Personal Job Search Guide, Third Edition, Prentice Hall-Pearson, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, 2006.</p><p>METHOD(S) OF EVALUATION:</p><p>Practice Interview 10% Classroom Attendance & Assignments 20% Internship Objectives & Completed Documents 10% Experience paper, Resume and Cover Letter 30% Supervisor’s Performance Review 30% Total 100%</p><p>GRADING:</p><p>90% - 100% = A 80% - 89% = B 70% - 79% = C 60% - 69% = D Below 60% = F</p><p>MAKE-UP POLICY:</p><p>Missed tests must be made up before the next class session. You must notify me prior to missing the test so that arrangements can be made to take the test. The student registers with program chair and completes an application for internship.</p><p>2. Either the student or the advisor obtains a training site.</p><p>3. Complete all documentation needed for the internship including training agreement and training plan.</p><p>4. The student will attend internship class sessions and complete assignments given, including resume and cover letter. </p><p>5. The student, advisor and supervisor develop the plan.</p><p>6. To receive full credit, the student must successfully complete a minimum of 96 hours of internship.</p><p>7. The student may meet with advisor at any time during the semester to discuss concerns.</p><p>8. During the semester the advisor will visit the training site as needed. Visits may be announced or unannounced.</p><p>9. The student maintains and submits verification of hours forms which may include weekly log of activities and work completed specific to the internship training plan.</p><p>10. The student prepares a final written paper summarizing the experience, including a critical analysis of the internship, plus the resume and cover letter.</p><p>11. A review of the student’s performance is conducted by the on-site supervisor at the end of the internship. ACC 280 – CO/OP-INTERNSHIP Page 6</p><p>REQUIRED PAPER</p><p>A 5-page typed, double-spaced paper is required. A poorly written paper will be returned for editing. One re-work of the paper will be permitted before assigning a grade.</p><p>Paper will include:</p><p>1. Description of internship training site including type of business product, department assigned to intern, and general job performed.</p><p>2. Explain how the original goals and objectives for the internship were met. (Attach the original training plan to the paper.)</p><p>3. Discuss objectives that were not met. If some objectives were not met, discuss why.</p><p>4. Discuss your academic preparation at Ivy Tech State College and how it relates to the work experience.</p><p>5. Discuss the relationship between the internship experience and your future career job plans.</p><p>6. Include resume and cover letter with paper.</p>
