<p> NIAGARA FALLS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Niagara Falls New York</p><p>Regular Board Meeting</p><p>August 29, 2002</p><p>ACCEPTANCE OF FUNDS FOR THE 2002-2003 STATE EARLY GRADE CLASS SIZE REDUCTION PROGRAM</p><p>BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Niagara Falls City School District is comprised of nine elementary schools, each school qualifying as a school-wide project school due to the 50% or greater poverty enrollment. </p><p>The update includes identified changes in grade and/or location for the 2002-2003 school year. Changes were made based on projected enrollment in these schools/grades for September 2002, and need.</p><p>This action item should be voted on now so that funds may be encumbered.</p><p>This action item was prepared by Mr. Mark Laurrie, Principal on Special Assignment. The recommended resolution was reviewed by Mr. Angelo Massaro, School District Attorney.</p><p>Mr. Laurrie will answer questions pertaining to this action item.</p><p>RECOMMENDATION:</p><p>A motion is recommended for the approval of the following resolution: Acceptance of Funds for the 2002-2003 State Early Grade Class Size Reduction Program:</p><p>WHEREAS, District staff has met and formulated a consolidated application to meet the guidelines of the fundor; and</p><p>WHEREAS, Official notification of grant award has been received; therefore be it</p><p>RESOLVED, That the Board of Education approve the Acceptance of Funds for the 2002-2003 State Early Grade Class Size Reduction Program; and RESOLVED, That said award be $376,821 and credited to Revenue Account F3289.327.04 State Early Grade Class Size Reduction Grant; and</p><p>RESOLVED, That the money be expended in the following function/object codes:</p><p>Appropriation Description Amount F2703.133.56 Elementary Tchrs – Abate 75,530 F2703.133.61 Elementary Tchr-Niagara St 39,111 F2703.133.64 Elementary Tchrs – 66th St 83,551 F2703.133.65 Elementary Tchr – 79th St 58,030 F2703.133.67 Elementary Tchrs – GJ Mann 95,030 F2703.803.96 Social Security 25,569 F2703.807.96 Health Insurance 14,090 TOTAL $376,821</p><p>Revenue Code: F3289.327.04 ABSTRACT</p><p>1. Total Budget: $376,821 5. Total Staff: 8 6. Number of Clients Served: K-3 students. 7-9. Major Objectives/Activities/Evaluation: This grant will allow the Niagara Fall City School District to reduce class sizes in grades K-3 at H. F. Abate, Niagara Street, 66th Street, G.J. Mann, and 79th Street schools. Additionally, an ESL teacher will be supported in this grant to reduce the student/teacher ratio for students requiring this service.</p>
