Independent Book Project, Comp. English 9: Marking Period 3

To complete your Independent Book Project for the third marking period you will need to choose a book to read that you have never read before. Much of the reading you will complete on this project will be done outside of class, as will the project itself. Although the majority of this project will be completed outside of class, I will require you to have your book with you in English class each day, because there will be times when you may be able to squeeze in a few extra minutes of reading time.

During the in-class reading portion of the project, you will complete a Reading Response Log, which will be counted towards your third marking period grade. (Each log will be worth 15 points.) The project portion of the Independent Book Project will be worth 30 points, and you may receive a maximum of 15 points for the presentation of your project to the class.

In order to complete the project portion you will need to follow the guidelines below to create a book cover for your book. All projects should be typed; although, your picture may be computer generated or drawn by hand.

Book Cover: - right side of paper should have an illustration or computer generated design (but not clip art) that represents the book - picture should not be identical to the cover of your book, but one that is original - left side of paper should have a typed book review, explaining why someone should or should not read the book - review should include examples that support your argument for or against your opinion of the book - DO NOT WRITE A SUMMARY OF THE BOOK! - cover will be judged on neatness, overall quality of work, and the creation of a valid and well-supported review

Due Dates: Book Completion: You will need to have your book finished by Monday, March 12th. When you have finished your book please submit to me the Completed Independent Book Reading Summary.

Project Presentations: You will be presenting your book project on Monday, March 19th or Tuesday, March 20th. You will stand in front of the class and briefly explain your book cover and your review. Please speak with me before the due dates if you have any questions or concerns about the project.
