<p> WELCOME TO SAINT JOHN’S</p><p>Some things you may want to know, but are too afraid to ask…</p><p> First, know that we are glad that you are here. You could have visited anywhere else this morning, but you chose Saint John’s Episcopal Church. Welcome!</p><p> What’s with different color books? The red or black book in front of you is the Book of Common Prayer. This is how we worship at Saint John’s. If you hear “thee” and “thy,” we’re starting on p. 323. If it sounds like modern English, we’re starting on p. 355. You’ll find a Bible placed at the end of each pew.</p><p> What about that blue book? The other book is the Hymnal. Hymn #s are listed in the printed bulletin. Hymns starting with an “S” are grouped in the front section. Don’t get frustrated if you get confused. </p><p> What am I supposed to say? If you follow in the prayer book (see question 2) you’ll notice the word “people” on the left margin. This will guide your responses. Think of it like you’re in a conversation with the Priest. Read along, and you’ll know just what to say when he talks to you. </p><p> Should I sit or stand or kneel? Throughout the service you will see these three postures at different times. We sit to listen, we stand to hear the Gospel proclaimed, we kneel to pray and confess our sins. You can also stand up to pray. You’ll see it both ways here. The Red/Black Prayer Book will guide you at each change.</p><p> Can I receive Communion? If you are Christian, baptized by water in the name of the Trinity, you are welcome to come to the rail and receive Communion. An usher will direct your row to stand in turn. Please come and receive the Body of Christ. </p><p> What are Prayers for Healing? During Communion, you’ll notice a priest in the Lady Chapel; that’s the one on the right side with the mural of the Blessed Virgin Mary. You are welcome to come to the rail and receive prayers for healing and the sacrament of unction (the priest will anoint you with Holy Oil and pray for you). </p><p> Most importantly. Enjoy your time here with us today; the details will come in time.
