Recommendation for the Display of Regional Library Facilities (RLF) Materials in Worldcat

Recommendation for the Display of Regional Library Facilities (RLF) Materials in WorldCat Local Revised 5/16/11

Recommendation The Implementation Team recommends the following option for display of the Northern and Southern Regional Libraries Facilities (NRLF and SRLF) in the WorldCat Local (WCL):  Continue to display RLF materials as they are currently configured in WCL. o NRLF holdings for northern campuses currently do not look the same as the SRLF holdings because UCB is not yet fully current with its reclamations. o Once UCB completes its reclamation process and sets the ZAP symbols, the displays for SRLF and NRLF will be consistent as new items are placed in the RLFs.  We recommend having multiple symbols on a title that has been deposited in an RLF, given there is a difference between who owns a volume and where it is physically located. This allows us to route ILL traffic in the manner we want by setting deflection on one of the symbols. This method is also beneficial if we want tools like WorldCat Collection Analysis to help show overlaps in collections, e.g. “How many things of ours do we have in remote storage?”

Current Display

Current Display for SRLF SRLF holdings currently appear in Level 1 for the owning campus AND in Level 1 for UCLA (since the SRLF is listed under UCLA and this is the holding location). For all other campuses, the holdings appear in Level 2.

SRLF holdings appear this way: (1) Level 1 in the UCSB instance (for the owning campus) [Image below] http://ucsb.worldcat.org/title/local-earthquake-travel-time-and-spatial-variations-of-crustal-velocity-in- southern-california/oclc/82773860&referer=brief_results (2) Level 1 in the UCLA instance (for SRLF) [Image below] http://ucla.worldcat.org/title/local-earthquake-travel-time-and-spatial-variations-of-crustal-velocity-in- southern-california/oclc/82773860&referer=brief_results (3) Level 2 in the Melvyl instance [Image below] http://melvyl.worldcat.org/title/local-earthquake-travel-time-and-spatial-variations-of-crustal-velocity- in-southern-california/oclc/82773860&referer=brief_results Current Display for NRLF NRLF holdings currently appear in Level 1 for the owning campus and appear in Level 2 for the other UC Libraries.
