Payton Learning 21 Resources Center Plaza; and 22 23 Whereas, Tyrone Burroughs holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in 24 political science from Benedict College. Upon graduation, he 25 began developing his sales and marketing skills and created 26 successful account portfolios for his employers. In 1987, 27 Burroughs founded First Choice Sales & Marketing Group, Inc.; 28 and 29 30 Whereas, thirty years later, Burroughs is Chairman, President, and 31 CEO of First Choice. As one of the personal care industry’s most 32 profound and respected executives, he leads the development of 33 company-wide strategic planning and long-range sales, marketing, 34 and retail execution initiatives; and 35 36 Whereas, with over three hundred years of collective experience in 37 brand management, First Choice is the nation’s largest consumer 38 products management agency in the multicultural personal care 39 category, which represents more than $1.7 trillion in buying 40 power. First Choice has become a recognized leader by providing 41 quality sales efforts, competitive knowledge, promotional support, 42 distributor training, and trade show participation to some of the</p><p>[644] 2 1 world’s largest product manufacturers and retailers. The First 2 Choice team focuses on engaging clients in the planning, analysis, 3 and selling of their brands to retailers and distributors throughout 4 the country. First Choice provides critical expertise and analytics 5 through the use of syndicated data, shopper insights, and in-store 6 execution; and 7 8 Whereas, Burroughs and his wife Nelda reside in Memphis, 9 Tennessee, where Burroughs is a prominent developer in the 10 restaurant and residential industries. He is the proud owner of the 11 historic R. S. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home, which prepared the 12 remains of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for public 13 viewing; and 14 15 Whereas, Burroughs serves on several civic, non-profit, higher 16 education, and corporate advisory boards. He is an integral 17 member on the board of directors for the Regional One Hospital, 18 Memphis NAACP Chapter, First Alliance Bank, and Memphis and 19 Shelby County Board Convention Center; the chairman of the 20 Metropolitan Baptist Church Board of Trustees; and the chairman 21 of The Burroughs Foundation, Inc.; and 22 23 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the 24 pride and recognition that Tyrone Burroughs has brought to the 25 State of South Carolina as a visionary pioneer in the business 26 community.
