Hannah Chair in partnership with the Office of International Studies in Education and the CREATE for STEM Institute is pleased to invite faculty, students and staff for a lecture with</p><p>Dr. Jari Lavonen & Dr. Katariina Salmela-Aro </p><p>Finnish Perspectives on Education and Student Engagement “Professional Teachers and Finnish Education Context: Reflections based on PISA and EAGER data” & “School engagement and disengagement: Developmental-contextual model” Monday May 5th at 1:30 pm in Room 133F</p><p>Jari Lavonen is a Professor of Physics and Chemistry Education at the Department of Teacher Education, University of Helsinki, Finland and is head of the department. He served as the director of the Finnish Graduate School for Research in Science and Mathematics education from 2005-2012. He is the past president of the Finnish Association for Research on Teaching of Mathematics and Science. His main research interests are science and technology teaching and learning, science teacher education and ICT use in science and technology education. Dr. Lavonen has participated in several European Union research projects. He has published with other researchers 180 scientific papers in scientific journals and 150 books for science teacher education or for science education at school.</p><p>Katariina Salmela-Aro is a Professor and Chair of the Personality and Work Psychology Sector at the University of Jyväskylä/Helsinki, Department of Psychology and a member of the Centre of Excellence on Learning and Motivation. Dr. Salmela-Aro is the Secretary General for the International Society for Behavioral Development (ISSBD) and President- Elect of the European Association for Developmental Psychology (EADP). She is currently a PI/Co-PI of six grants from The Academy of Finland, is a Co-PI of the Pathways to Adulthood International Interdisciplinary Post-doctoral Fellowship program funded by the Jacobs Foundation, and has about 200 publications. She is an associate editor for European Psychologist and Psykologia. Her main interests are motivation, critical life transitions, productive development and well-being and related interventions. ~light refreshments will be served~</p>
