Our Journey May 2014 Newsletter

Our Journey May 2014 Newsletter

Dear Friends of Our Journey,

Looking back over the past 5 months and realizing how far these wonderful people have come; so many small businesses have been started and they are all prospering. Many women are keeping chickens and selling the eggs to help feed their families. Some have started personal gardens. Loans have been made and are being paid back. The 3 local Kenyan Pastors Our Journey partners with are starting their own small businesses which will enable them to keep the feeding programs going and hopefully the children will get fed more frequently. Pastor Julius’s Posho Mill Business grinds the corn into maize flour isa very viable business being that Kenya’s staple food is corn, usually ground to flour and boiled into a kind of dense cake called Ugali (a porridge made of maize) This machine grinds the corn after it has been harvested; currently they have to pay someone to do this for them. They will be able to grind all of their corn from the community gardens plus sell their services to the surrounding communities. For over 2 years now we have been mentoring all 3 Pastors in the process of creating a Business Plan. Currently, we are raising funds for Pastor Dave to have a Posho Mill Business and Pastor Ken to have a Sewing School, (training women to make clothes and sell them). We are all working to help break the cycle of dependency.

Our goal this year is to distribute 1,000 blankets and 500 pairs of shoes to these forgotten children. If you are interested in helping with any of the above projects please send your donations to:

Our Journey, Inc. 15617 US Hwy 17 Townsend, GA 31331 or you can donate on line at www.ourjourneyinc.org Together, we can make a difference; one child at a time.

Love & Blessings, Maureen
