Description of the Course</p><p>A. Catalog Description: A beginning exploration of drawing practices, materials and concepts concentrating on perspective, still life, landscape and portrait. The course meets general-education requirements.</p><p>III. Exposition</p><p>A. Objectives:</p><p>Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to do the following:</p><p>1. Draw with greater visual acuity. 2. Draw in a variety of artistic genres. 3. Develop and utilize their visual memory. 4. Apply principles of pictorial composition effectively. 5. Demonstrate increased coordination between eye and hand. 6. Apply proper drawing mechanics in their work. 7. Effectively use fundamental drawing skills such as perspective, modeling and other basic rendering techniques. 8. Enhance the artistic quality of their drawings by effective use of tools and materials.</p><p>B. Activities and Requirements:</p><p>1. Students are expected to attend six hours of studio drawing and critiques per week. 2. Students will learn gesture drawing and use it as a foundation technique for developing and finishing a drawing. 2 3. Students will draw from direct observation using drawing materials that facilitate comprehension and utilization of line variation and weight. 4. Students are responsible for any exams, homework, discussion, and papers.</p><p>B. Major Units and Time Allotted</p><p>1. Proper drawing mechanics 2 2. Intuitive gesture, blind gesture and modified gesture 10 3. Intuitive perspective and perceptual grid as tools for accuracy in drawing 12 4. Sensitivity to line, mark making and line variation for creating the illusion of 3d and as expressive elements 9 5. Positive and negative space and proportion as tools for accuracy in drawing 9 6. Linear perspective 12 7. Atmospheric perspective 6 8. Foreshortened circles 6 9. Cross contour line to render the illusion of 3d form 6 10. Chiaroscuro (light and shade to model forms) via line 6 11. Rationale and Impact:</p><p>A. This course is being revised to reflect the updated format requirements of the UCC.</p><p>B. The course is a General Education course designed for non-majors. </p><p>C. No other existing departments or programs will be affected. </p><p>VI. Cost and Staff Analysis:</p><p>A. Since this is a revision of an existing course, it will not cost any additional amount to the university.</p><p>B. The course will be offered every semester. 4 VII.
