Discuss the transportation revolution of the period 1815-1840. What economic, political, and social impact did those changes have on the country?</p><p>2. Alexis de Tocqueville was impressed by the “general equality of condition among the people.” Writing about the same period, NY merchant Philip Hone stated, “the two extremes of costly luxury in living, expensive establishments, and improvident waste are presented in daily and hourly contrast with squalid misery and hopeless destitution.” How do you account for these very different assessments?</p><p>3. Discuss the federal government’s policy toward Native Americans during the period 1815-1840.</p><p>4. What stimulated northeastern manufacturing in the years after the War of 1812? How did New England lead the way in industrialization?</p>
