<p>Class participation rubric (5 points)</p><p>5 points: Regularly engages in the class activities. During the semester both poses and answers questions to promote class learning. Normally comes to class with completed assignments or specific questions regarding those assignments. Leads during class group work. </p><p>4 points: Rarely misses class. Contributes to class discussions and group work. Regularly comes to class with completed assignments or specific questions regarding those assignments.</p><p>3 points: Attentive, occasionally poses and answers questions in class. Rarely misses class.</p><p>2 points: Usually present, attentive, and prepared with class material</p><p>1 point: Usually present and attentive</p><p>Any disruptive behavior can lower the points in the participation category. Draft (1/16/07)</p><p>Homework Guidelines (10 points) </p><p>I expect you to take pride in the work that you submit. You should expect to recopy your graded homework after working out the details. Homework papers should be self- contained. A reader should not need to refer to the text to know how to interpret a solution.</p><p>For every graded homework assignment:  use full sentences with correct punctuation;  write legibly or type the assignment;  use paper that is neither frayed nor wrinkled;  include your name on the front page; and  staple the pages or fold them vertically; </p><p>The rubric below will give you an idea of how I will evaluate homework.</p><p>10 points: The assignment is written clearly, thoroughly and correctly. Every problem has a correct and complete solution. The student includes necessary details and addresses subtleties. The student uses correct mathematical notation and syntax. Graphs are on graph paper and are appropriately labeled. </p><p>8 points: Every problem has been attempted. Most of the solutions are correct, with at most very minor errors or omissions. The explanations are all reasonably clear and complete.</p><p>6 points: Every problem has been attempted. Most of the solutions are correct although the student may be missing some vital parts of certain arguments or the arguments may not be clearly explained.</p><p>4 points: Some of the assignment has not been attempted or the work for these problems is of poor quality. The solutions may be only partially correct and the explanations are poorly presented, or the solution may be a strong attempt at a problem which is entirely wrong.</p><p>2 points: There appears to be some reasonable attempt at doing the assignment. </p><p>I will give an overall grade for homework assignments. Excellence in one area may compensate for deficiencies in others.</p>
