Unit 6 Assignment Survey Statistics

Unit 6 Assignment – Survey Statistics

In this assignment, which is the culminating assessment for the unit Two-Variable Statistics, you will design a survey/questionnaire to see the feasibility of implementing high speed trains in southern Ontario. You will assume that if a high speed train were to be implemented here, it would have technological characteristics similar to the Japanese Shinkansen Bullet Train, which runs at a top speed of 320 km/h.

PART A: DESIGNING THE SURVEY/QUESTIONNAIRE Design an effective survey/questionnaire that you will ask people in the GTA regarding the practicality of implementing a high speed train. Be sure to identify:  How the research is being conducted and why that means is most practical for this survey (in-person, phone, email, video-interview, other)  The Principles of Proper Surveying are being followed (p. 153)

Things to ask might include:  How long it takes to commute to work/school  How far away they live from work/school  How much they pay for current transportation (car, gas, insurance, bus, train, etc)  If driving, how often do they get stuck in (rush hour) traffic and for how long?

PART B: GRAPHING YOUR DATA Once your data has been collected and organized, you now need to analyze the strength of any relationship that exists. Take two variables from your research that you think are strongly correlated (e.g. distance from work/school and time it takes to travel) and graph it on a set of axes. Make sure to label your axes properly. Plot at least 6 different data points.

PART C: LINE OF BEST FIT & ANALYSIS

Now, draw a line of best fit through your data points. What does this line represent? What can you say about x- and y-values that are greater than those displayed on your graph? Based on your graph (and line of best fit), indicate the sign (+, -, 0) of the linear correlation coefficient (p. 169). Does this relationship look linear? What conclusions can you gather from this experiment? Explain.

Thanks for using Meant4Teachers.com Thanks for using Meant4Teachers.com
