<p>SC SS Standard 4-3.3: Summarize the importance of the key battles of the Revolutionary War and the reasons for the American victories including Lexington and Concord, Bunker (Breed’s) Hill, Charleston, Saratoga, Cowpens, and Yorktown.  The battle of Lexington and Concord were small towns outside of Boston.  The very first shots of the Revolution were fired in the city of Lexington.  The British marched out of the city of Boston to capture members of the Sons of Liberty that were on the way to a meeting of the Continental Congress. These troublemakers were staying in Lexington. The British also wanted to destroy military supplies that were stored by the colonists at Concord.  Minutemen were ready when the redcoats arrived at Lexington. </p><p> What country do we refer to as “the redcoats”? The British  Who were the minutemen? A small elite force which were highly mobile and able to assemble quickly- they can be anywhere at any time.</p><p> The Battle of Lexington and Concord is also referred to as “the shot heard round the world”. It is called this because of the impact of American revolutionary ideals on other nations. As a result, the Secondary Continental Congress met and named George Washington the Commander-in-Chief of the army.</p><p> Where were the first shots fired? To destroy military supplies</p><p>SC SS Standard 4-3.3: Summarize the importance of the key battles of the Revolutionary War and the reasons for the American victories including Lexington and Concord, Bunker (Breed’s) Hill, Charleston, Saratoga, Cowpens, and Yorktown.  The Battle of Bunker (Breed’s) Hill was significant because of what the American’s learned.  The untrained American troops were forced to surrender when they ran out of gunpowder. However, they did inflict many casualties on the British army.  The battle proved that the Americans could stand up to the British army. It also showed that Americans would need allies to supply ammunition and assistance.  The British soon evacuated Boston and sailed to New York.
