<p>Skyview News </p><p>Monthly Newsletter from Skyview Junior High School</p><p>AUGUST 7, 2014</p><p>Welcome Back to School August Community Serve Day </p><p>August 24th 9:00am – 1:00pm</p><p>Community SERVE Day brings together people and organizations to serve local teachers and students. The projects include helping teachers set up classrooms, improving school grounds, and building beautifications. Learn more and sign-up online at: communityserveday.org </p><p>New Parent Meeting </p><p>August 27th 6:00pm – 6:30pm</p><p>Parents new to Skyview are welcome to join us in the Skyview gym for a short informational meeting before the Ice Cream Social. </p><p>PTSA Back-to-School Ice Cream Social</p><p>August 27th 6:30pm – 8:00pm</p><p>All Skyview families are invited to our annual PTSA Ice Cream Social. </p><p>STUDENT CLASS SCHEDULES will be available for distribution beginning at 6:30pm on August 27th. Student Store</p><p>August 28th 1:00pm – 6:00pm</p><p>This is a great time to purchase your PE gear and planners, pick up or drop off sports packets, and pay your ASB or sports fees. The student store will be held in the school cafeteria. Cash and Checks only please.</p><p>First Day of School for 7th graders And WEB leaders September 2nd 8:05am – 2:40pm</p><p>Orientation for new-to-Skyview 8th and 9th graders September 2nd 1:00pm – 2:40pm (you will need to provide transportation TO the school, and buses will be running on normal schedule at 2:40pm)</p><p>Back to School for ALL Students September 3rd 8:05am – 2:40pm</p><p>TRANSPORTATION</p><p>Buses will be running on regular schedules beginning September 2nd.</p><p>For more information on bus routes go to versatrans.nsd.org Username and password: public</p><p>SPORTS Fall Sports will begin during the first week of school. Sports packets must by completed, including a sports physical, before participating in school sports. Packets are available in the Main Office. The Sports Physical form is also available on the district website.</p><p>SCHOOL DRESS CODE</p><p>Student clothing is “work” clothing and should not disrupt or interfere with teaching or learning. </p><p>Student clothing may not show undergarments, inadequately covered chests, midriff, back, buttocks or groin areas. Sleeveless shirt straps need to be at least 3- finger width. Anything worn over tights, nylons, or bare legs may not be higher than 4” above the knee. Leggings, jeggings and yoga pants must all be covered front and back. Hats may be worn unless a staff member asks for it to be removed. Obscene, sexual, lewd, racist, sexist, gang, drug, alcohol, or tobacco related messages and objectionable graphics may not be worn. Gang-related attire, including bandannas, may not be worn. Gang-related insignia on the hair or body may not be exposed or visible.</p><p>TECHNOLOGY ON CAMPUS</p><p>Students may bring personal technology devices (such as smart phones, digital music players, etc.) to school only after they have a signed, dated agreement on file. Students will receive a copy of this document in their First Day Packet.</p><p>Personal technology devices can be useful in an educational setting when used appropriately. However, unless the device is being used in class with teacher approval, all personal technology devices must be turned off and put away during class time. Personal technology devices shall not be used in the hallways between classes, in bathrooms, or in PE locker rooms.</p><p>Personal technology devices may be used responsibly and appropriately before and after school and during lunch, but this use must not violate the Northshore School District Acceptable Use standards as outlined in the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook Concerning Student Conduct. In particular, there will be no harassing, abusive, or threatening activities (cyberbullying) when using personal technology devices. Students will not have access to the district’s network. Also, unless it is for a classroom assignment, students will not take pictures or video of other students or teachers.</p><p>Using personal technology devices is a privilege and students should behave responsibly.
