Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance review.</p><p>Job Family and Level: R&T Level 4</p><p>Contract Status: Fixed-Term ending 31 July 2017</p><p>Hours of Work: Full-Time 36.25 hours per week</p><p>Location: Sutton Bonington Campus</p><p>Reporting to: Head of School/Head of Division</p><p>Purpose of the New Role:</p><p>The School of Biosciences delivers a large undergraduate programme in Environmental Science with students taught across the University Park and Sutton Bonington Campuses. The courses taught comprise a 3 year BSc and a 4 year MSci. Both degrees are available as a ‘with European Studies’ option. Environmental Science is also being developed at the University’s Malaysia campus and an active inter-campus exchange is developing. The purpose of the new role is to contribute to the delivery of this portfolio of taught programmes in support of Prof Neil Crout who is currently Head of School.</p><p>Main Responsibilities % time per year</p><p>1. Teaching %  To prepare and deliver lectures/seminars/tutorials as appropriate. The role will involve supporting the teaching work of Prof Neil Crout whose teaching is mainly in the quantitative aspects of environmental science (environmental modelling, statistics) but also includes elements on the history and philosophy of science and the role of environmental science in society.  To teach and examine students, particularly those on the BSc/MSci Environmental Science degree. To act as Module Convenor for some of the modules associated with these undergraduate degrees and to maintain and develop both the quality and appropriateness of the course materials and the curriculum.  To support and comply with the University and School teaching quality assurance standards and procedures, including the provision of such information as required.  Supervise undergraduate students undertaking appropriate Research Projects within the Division.</p><p>Recruitment 2. Research %  The role is primarily teaching focused, however there will be opportunity to undertake research supervision in the area of environmental and agricultural modelling, contribute to research delivery and outputs.</p><p>3. Administration %  The successful candidate will actively contribute to the administrative duties of the Division and the University.  To act as a personal tutor for undergraduate students as required.  To take part in and contribute to staff development activities consistent with continuous professional development.  To ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of work.</p><p>4. Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed. %</p><p>Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience</p><p>Essential Desirable Qualifications/ PhD in an area of Environmental Education Science or discipline relevant to the quantitative aspects of environmental science.</p><p>Skills/Training Evidence of good teaching & A postgraduate teaching presentation skills relevant to the qualification, e.g. PGCHE or quantitative aspects of environmental equivalent. science.</p><p>Experience Teaching experience in Environmental Knowledge of the wider role of Science at undergraduate or environmental science in postgraduate level. underpinning policy or decision making. Administrative duties associated with taught modules in Higher Education. </p><p>Personal Ability to work in a highly multi- Attributes disciplinary and applied field. Self-motivation and flexibility.
