Both of them thanked the Club for the opportunity to participate in the conference. Amy said that she was surprised when she was chosen because she did not feel like a leader. However she soon learned to that she had unique talents which made her an appropriate leader during conference exercises. The skills learned in the conference will carry over as she finishes her senior year at Hempfield High School. She said that one of the benefits of participating in the conference was that she felt confident addressing the members of our Club – something she said she could not have done a year ago. Joey had always felt that he was a leader and that he felt comfortable as leader of the pack giving orders and standing in front of the group. He said that he learned that there are many different styles of leadership – for instance leading by example or perhaps stepping aside when someone else might be a more appropriate leader for a part of a project. He also learned that to be a good leader one needed to be a good listener. Often effective solutions to problems and projects can come from within the group, if the leader is skilled at getting everyone involved in the decision making.

Club Business The remainder of the meeting was devoted to Club Business. Each of the Lanes of Service met and discussed plans for the 2010-2011 Rotary Year. President Velletri suggested that the Club plan a social evening and suggested a ‘Crab Fest’ as a fun evening. She will bring particulars to the Club for approval in the near future. Mahkrik Kcirtap noted that he and Bruce will continue to prospect for new members. Planning for the Businesses That Care EXPO III has begun and a meeting of the EXPO Committee will be held in the near future.
