oBIX XML TC Working meeting Minutes

September 5, 2007, 10:00am – 11:00am (CDT)

Attendees: David Richards (Trane) Brian Frank (Tridium) Aaron Hansen (Controlco) Brian Meyers (Trane)

Discussion of spec updates  Anyone with spec issues for the current version is requested to forward them to the group for discussion.  Date and time types need to be added to the oBIX primitives to support scheduling.

Scheduling updates Aaron provided a short summary of basic iCalendar recurrence rules and Brian showed a sample mapping of iCalendar structure to oBIX.

Scope of work for oBIX scheduling will be limited to developing a mapping to the relevant portions of iCalendar and discovering schedules. This will allow an iCalendar to be sent to an oBIX system.

The mapping to specific control actions in the system will not be addressed. This aspect of scheduling will be handled by some other means determined by the oBIX vendor. In other words, the system programmer will need to define objects that can receive iCalendar items.

One issue raised for further discussion was the notion of a value for the schedule. For example, a standard calendar entry simply indicates scheduled/not-scheduled and would not directly handle a requirement for a third state.

Action Items  Aaron will propose a set of critical iCalendar objects to be included in oBIX.  Brian F. will begin the documentation of oBIX scheduling.

Next meeting will be in approximately 3 weeks (~26 September). Will wait for progress on action items before scheduling meeting.
