<p>MAKE IT HAPPEN</p><p>Planning Events and Marketing Course</p><p>What is the purpose of this course?</p><p>This course is designed for learners who wish to plan cultural events, and will support the development of their skills in event planning and marketing. </p><p>What does the programme cover?</p><p>Part 1 - A series of 2 study units (4 credits) taken from the Aim Awards Level 2 Award in the Principles of the Creative and Cultural Sector:</p><p> Understand how to support the planning of live events</p><p> Awareness of Health and Safety in the Creative and Cultural Sector</p><p>Part 2 – knowledge and understanding of how to develop a marketing strategy, including the use of digital marketing, to promote your event</p><p>Part 3 – An opportunity to receive training and mentoring whilst putting on a ‘real’ event of your own.</p><p>Who is it for?</p><p>These units are designed for aspiring event planners or those who may be required to carry out event planning as part of a future role but have little or no previous experience. It is of particular advantage to those who wish to work in the creative and cultural sector.</p><p>Unit contents</p><p>The aim of this course is to provide an overview of event planning and marketing skills</p><p>You will find out about:  The process of producing a plan for a live event</p><p> The importance of timelines in the planning of live events  how to present and implement a plan for a live event</p><p> the relevant Health and Safety regulations in the Creative and Cultural Sector</p><p> compliance with relevant health and safety procedures</p><p> how to segment the market</p><p> the value of marketing</p><p> the use of search engine optimisation (SEO)</p><p> the requirements of marketing research using the internet</p><p> the uses of digital marketing devices and messages</p><p> how to use digital technology for marketing purposes</p><p>You could then be given the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice by the organisation of a real event (ie by organising a live music event or an art exhibition) and you will be appointed a mentor to support you with this process. Gecko will also assist the events teams to identify and gather the financial resources to start the event.</p><p>How will your work be assessed?</p><p>Assessment is via centre-devised assignments (internal assessment) and real work experience (work based learning).</p><p>Assessment and certification is provided by Gecko Programmes who are accredited by Aim Awards..</p><p>What are the entry requirements?</p><p>Learners do not need any prior qualifications, knowledge or experience before starting the qualification. However they need to live in the Birmingham or Black Country area, be aged between 18 and 30 and not be in a job or training.</p><p>Progression</p><p>In addition to the course, you also have the opportunity to complete a voluntary work placement in Sp ain or Italy of 2 to 8 weeks. This is offered to those who are interested in further enhancing their profe ssional skills. </p><p>Our work placement programmes are funded by the EU, which means we will pay for your accommod ation and travel (including flights), as well as subsistence allowance. To be eligible for the work place ment abroad you must hold a valid UK/EU Passport or travel document.</p><p>Duration and Venue</p><p>The course starts at the end of February. Dates and times to be announced. There will be one course offered at our offices at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park and another at the The Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham. The course will be offered for 2 days a week over a 2 week period (4 days in total).
