<p> Job Family: 47-0000 Construction and Extraction Occupational Group: 47-2150 Construction</p><p>OCCUPATION PROFILE</p><p>JOB FAMILY: CONSTRUCTION AND EXTRACTION</p><p>OCCUPATIONAL GROUP: CONSTRUCTION</p><p>OCCUPATION: PIPELAYERS 47-2151</p><p>BROADBAND LEVELS: Level 2 – Pay Band 004</p><p>DESCRIPTION</p><p>This is work laying pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Incumbents perform any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches or culverts, position pipe, or seal joints.</p><p>EXAMPLES OF WORK</p><p>Grades and levels base of trench, using tamping machine and hand tools.</p><p>Lays pipes in trenches and welds, cements, glues, or otherwise connects pieces together.</p><p>Lays out route of pipe, following written instructions or blueprints.</p><p>Checks slope, using carpenter's level or lasers.</p><p>Digs trenches to desired or required depth by hand or using trenching tool.</p><p>Taps and drills holes into pipe to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.</p><p>Covers pipe with earth or other materials.</p><p>EXAMPLES OF JOB CHARACTERISTICS</p><p>Performing General Physical Activities Performing physical activities that require moving one's whole body, such as in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also require considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials.</p><p>Page 1 of 3 Job Family: 47-0000 Construction and Extraction Occupational Group: 47-2150 Construction</p><p>Handling and Moving Objects Using one's own hands and arms in handling, installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials, or in manipulating things, including the use of keyboards. Implementing Ideas, Programs, etc. Conducting or carrying out work procedures and activities in accord with one's own ideas or information provided through directions/instructions for purposes of installing, modifying, preparing, delivering, constructing, integrating, finishing, or completing programs, systems, structures, or products. Controlling Machines and Processes Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).
