This Week in Beginning Percussion Lessons

<p>THIS WEEK IN BEGINNING PERCUSSION LESSONS</p><p>All Percussion Players will learn how to properly produce sound by bouncing the stick on the drumhead. Students should keep the hands flat; the butt of the stick placed properly in their palms; and the stick between fingers so that forefinger is not on top of the stick.</p><p>The teacher will develop a warm-up to be used at the beginning of every lesson. </p><p>Students will learn to play new RUDIMENTS (drummer’s scales) every week. Students must use a proper grip on the drum stick at all times and play the drum in a standing position. Students will learn the PARA-DIDDLE (L-R-L-L / R-L-R-R) & DOUBLE PARA-DIDDLE (R-L-R-L-R-R / L-R-L-R-L-L. All drummers need to visit two websites; www.vicfirth.com (educational resource section) & www.drummerworld.com. These are two fun sites – please view sites with parents first.</p><p>Bells will be learned starting in January. </p><p>Students will learn several songs – HOT CROSS BUNS – ROLL ALONG – GO TELL AUNT RHODIE – JINGLE BELLS – MY DREYDL.</p><p>Students will receive a ditto of the music to be learned. There are particular patterns at the top of the FIRST music sheet. ALL STUDENTS were told to place the rhythmic symbol name underneath each note in all songs. Each student is to continue to practice and learn all songs. Students must come prepared to class with music marked as well as having their instruments. Next week each student will prepare a weekly practice log. (writing down their practice pattern) Also, Mr. Parreott will prepare a daily warm-up for all band lessons.</p><p>* Students will be asked to get a parental or guardian signature on a letter to be sent home about the instrument they are borrowing, information about the Winter Concert to be held at the High School Auditorium on December 18, 2012 and the requirements for being in band.</p><p>With the assistance of a parent only, view an internet video of drum performances on www.youtube.com or other popular musical web sites. </p>
