<p> EL CAMINO COLLEGE Office of the Vice President-Academic Affairs</p><p>SABBATICAL LEAVE COMMITTEE MINUTES 9 November 2006</p><p>Present: Dr. Fonte, Dr. Rader, Mr. Stanbury, Mr. Way </p><p>Also Present: Ms. Constantino </p><p>NUMBER OF SABBATICALS The committee reviewed that portion of the contract that covers the number of sabbaticals to be awarded and it was reported that two percent of 334 certificated members (includes Faculty, Faculty Coordinators, Counselors, Librarians, Athletic Director, and Nurses) equated to 6.68 sabbaticals. It was noted that the carryover fraction from 2006/2007 (.99) and fractional sabbatical from 2007/2008 (.67) equated to an additional sabbatical; therefore, it was determined that there would be seven traditional and seven half-pay sabbaticals. Since there were two or more unused half-pay sabbaticals, an additional traditional sabbatical was added. Total sabbaticals to be issued for 2007/2008 will be eight full-pay and seven half-pay sabbaticals. REVIEW OF SABBATICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE APPLICATIONS – 2007/2008</p><p>Full-Pay Sabbaticals:</p><p>Thomas Storer Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written. </p><p>Eugene Engle Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written, pending clarification of the following: -- need confirmation of project acceptance from a representative at the University of California, Davis -- who will supervise the project -- what is applicant’s role in the program -- more details needed in terms of benefit to ECC Mr. Stanbury agreed to contact applicant for clarification.</p><p>Kenneth Zion Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written.</p><p>Michael Stallings Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written. Lori Medigovich Application for the writing of a textbook for which there is a commitment to publish approved as written. </p><p>Matthew Ebiner Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written. </p><p>William James Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written, pending the following clarification: -- Will the applicant enroll in a six-unit program of independent study at CSU, Dominguez Hills, under the supervision of Dr. Stephan Waterworth? -- If not, is it the applicant’s intention to work on independent study project under the supervision of his colleague, Dr. Waterworth, at ECC? Dr. Rader agreed to follow-up with Dr. James. </p><p>Jeanne Bellemin Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written. </p><p>Alternate:</p><p>Suzanne Gates Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written, pending clarification of appropriate category. Ms. Constantino will follow-up with Professor Gates. </p><p>Half-Pay Sabbaticals:</p><p>Lisa Raufman Application for the writing of a textbook for which there is a commitment to publish approved as written. </p><p>Daniel LaCoe Application for a program of independent study in the applicant’s teaching field other than formal class work approved as written, pending clarification and letter of support from the director of the program. Dean Way agreed to follow up with Ms. Reid. </p><p>Kevin O’Brien Application for formal class work in pursuance of an advanced degree or to increase the applicant’s proficiency in the applicant’s teaching field approved as written. </p><p>2</p>
