<p> Mechanical Engineering Faculty Position</p><p>TENURE TRACK position at the assistant professor level in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering starting August 15, 2018. Qualified candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline. Evidence of degree completion by May 31, 2018 must be provided. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical and/or aerospace engineering, advise undergraduate and graduate students, conduct cutting-edge research, supervise graduate theses, and serve on university, college, and department committees. The candidate is also expected to develop new courses and the associated laboratory facilities as necessary. </p><p>Qualified candidates with demonstrated expertise in the areas of ground or space vehicle structures and systems, next-generation sensing and/or biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven research and publication record, with potential to secure externally funded research grants, and post-doctoral experience. </p><p>The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) department offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, and a Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering. The department’s faculty is engaged in federally funded research projects from agencies such as NSF, NIH, NASA, DOD, DARPA, and DOT. The MAE department is the largest department in the college with a current enrollment of 120 M.S. and Ph.D. students and 800 undergraduate students. The undergraduate mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering programs are both accredited by EAC/ABET. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies WMU among the nation’s fewer than 200 top research universities.</p><p>Kalamazoo is in a metropolitan area in southwestern Michigan, midway between Chicago and Detroit. The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers 14 bachelor's degree programs, 11 master’s programs, and 7 doctoral programs. The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences has seven academic departments, with programs in engineering, engineering technology, and applied sciences. The college is housed in a new $100 million facility (Floyd Hall) located on a 270-acre engineering campus.
