Tito arrives late, and through a hilarious series of mishaps, he is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he's dead - and in a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Merelli's costume and fool the audience into thinking he's Il Stupendo. Max succeeds and lives up to his idol, but Merelli regains consciousness and gets into the identical costume, ready to perform. Now two opera singers are running around in the same costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo. A sensation on Broadway and in London's West End, this madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter. Presented Cabaret Style with table seating, patrons are invited to bring their own dinner, drinks and snacks to enjoy! Lend Me a Tenor: A Comedy - Ken Ludwig - Google Books By David Benedict. First seen as a tuner in at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and reworked before and after a U. All this is handled in cumbersome expository scenes that rarely lift into flowing comedy, as in the scene where the entire hotel staff tap-dance their excitement at the arrival of the Merellis. Initially, the second act improves once the farce gets going. Problematically, the pivotal character Max is too inconsistent and blandly played, and saddling him with more than one anodyne, sentimental number sandbags the action still further. Other characterizations also fail to hit the mark. In the key role of Henry, who runs the opera, Matthew Kelly shouts almost every line and is so generalized that his dilemma carries no dramatic weight. Sophie-Louise Dann gives a delightfully vapid turn as diva Diana DiVane and lands every laugh in a song auditioning her Lucia di Lammermoor, Carmen, Violetta and beyond. And as the Merellis, buoyant Matus and snarling Riding pull off the considerable coup of having extravagantly oversized characters — and accents — yet hold their performances in delicious comedy check. The show tries hard to be loved. Home Legit Reviews. Jun 20, am PT. David Benedict eggsbened. See All. Directed by Ian Talbot. Choreographed by Randy Skinner. Musical direction by Colin Billing. With a small cast, this left each actor with more lines to remember. It was the most challenging part of the play, according to director Nancy Silva. I think that was their biggest challenge. There was another factor of the original play that proved to be challenging. The original play had written Max and Tito in blackface during their portrayals of Othello in the first of the two acts. This was also used to further the ambiguity of identities between the characters. Silva said she knew she would have to adapt the play to avoid supporting racist stereotypes. I think it was mostly just the playwright being kinda daft to the sensibility. This was meant as an alternative, since the playwright later said that the blackface was not necessary to the show. Crystal Piper took the role of Julia, the dramatic and easily panicked Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild that Tito is set to perform for. Julia was presented in a long, glamorous silver dress and heels. Harris had multiple wardrobe changes, including an ending scene when the characters quickly pantomime the entire play over again, during which he had quick changes. The costumes were designed by Gail Russell, a faculty member. Despite any obstacles and adaptation, the cast was able to work together and prepare their roles well. Lend Me a Tenor – Broadway Play – Original | IBDB We know this because we can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance, just beyond the balcony of the luxury suite in the Faubourg Ritz Hotel, an absolutely gorgeous set designed with art deco and period details by Charlie Corcoran. Predictably, Tito is a talented but temperamental prima donna, with mid-life insecurities about his career, his marriage, and his beloved daughter Mimi Kristen Martin , an aspiring actress with a wicked right hook. Oh dear! What to do? To go into detail any further would spoil all the plot twists, misunderstandings and reversals. Suffice it to say that Ludwig and director Stephen Wadsworth, who also has experience directing opera, keep topping themselves with improbable situations, mistaken identities and clever word play. How will Max save the Opera from disaster and preserve his relationship with his boss? There seems to be only one way out for Max — who, as luck would have it, fancies himself a tenor worthy of the stage. The consequences for Max, Maggie, and the entire gang of colorful characters are surprising and funny in this modern version of a traditional English farce. Of course, for a comedy of this nature — with a relatively thin plot and a relatively heavy dose of pratfalls — to succeed, the cast has to be on its game. And happily, the actors on stage are nimble, energetic, and eager. In particular, J. Daw, as Max, serves as a capable centerpiece to the show, and also has an undeniably wonderful operatic voice. https://uploads.strikinglycdn.com/files/fbd1d00d-331a-4521-bb6d-941499a0f93c/01-izzy-und-sergej-206.pdf https://files8.webydo.com/9586433/UploadedFiles/637DC350-6676-2E39-AF06-C1C96BD9D24D.pdf https://files8.webydo.com/9589712/UploadedFiles/97B10840-13F1-DD6D-55E5-24F41CE90BF8.pdf https://files8.webydo.com/9592172/UploadedFiles/74D938DE-07AC-5608-7366-533BD778909D.pdf https://static.s123-cdn-static.com/uploads/4639782/normal_60206c632f96e.pdf.
