Operate a Facility / Line loopback on the DS-3 / STS-1 interface. If the NE is unequipped, insert a barrel connector between the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) coaxial connectors at the NE’s termination point. Reference the NE documentation to identify TX and RX coaxial cables. STEP 2 Using the TBERD 310 DS-3 test set (or equivalent), configure the test set TRANSMIT as follows: MODE = M13; PATTERN = 2^23-1; DS-3 TRANSMIT TIMING = INT

Results 1: Toggle to SIGNAL with the RIGHT toggle switch. Toggle to PULSE SHAPE with the LEFT toggle switch

Results 2: Toggle to SUMMARY with the RIGHT toggle switch STEP 3 At the DSX-3 connect the test set to the IN (transmit) and OUT (receive) jacks.  Look for FRAME and PATTERN SYNC on the test set to verify continuity.  Inject DS-3 LOGIC errors to verify validity (they will appear in the Results 2 window.  Press the RESTART button to clear the registers once the previous step is successfully completed.  Look for PULSE SHAPE PASS in the Results 1 window.
