Firstly, both Year 6 and Year 1 have worked brilliantly on their SATS and have done their very best. A highlight was certainly the Year 3 residential last week and I have especially enjoyed seeing Nursery going out on various excursions. There are many different parts to school life and your children have had a rich and interesting few weeks! We look forward to seeing you back at the usual time on Monday June 5th. Manchester I thought you might like to know how we approached the aftermath of the terrorist atrocity in Manchester. Through assembly and class work, we encouraged the children to talk to you, or a trusted adult in school if they felt worried, scared or confused in a way appropriate to their age. Your children showed great empathy and respect. One class wrote poetry about Barrow using the ‘Manchester’ poem some of you may have seen recited on television at the vigil by Tony Walsh, for inspiration. Here is one of those poems, written by a group of Year 4 pupils.

Barrow (By Marco, Demi, Bethany, Paisley and Lexi)

This is the place that builds submarines, machines, dreams and we're a team.

Our docks are busy, our town is strong, our people respectful and our friendship's long.

This is the place where Barrovians show talents, we are loyal, peaceful and proud.

This is the place from where a message is sent - we want you to know a few things

Our home is your home, our dreams are yours, you belong to our family, be frightened no more.

This is the place where we offer support, a loving thought, kindness taught and troubles fought

This is the place where - though sadness fell - we'll rise with respect and always tell of togetherness and unity and joy and laughter and, in the days after remember

We Love Manchester PLEASE GET INVOLVED- TUESDAY JUNE 6 th

Below are diary events. It would help us plan (and get the right amount of tea and cake!) if you fill in the slip from the letter regarding the Parents’ Morning provided today, or the list the class teacher will have in the playground on the first morning back . Of course grandparents, carers etc are equally very welcome to attend. The plan for the morning is as follows.

8.50am- Children and adults line up together and go into classroom for registration 9.10am- Children and adults go to fun phonics session (we have been making great progress!) 9.45- Children and adults return to class (opportunity for children to show parents their work) 10.15- Visitors and children have tea and cake in hall 10.45- Playtime 11pm- End of morning, children go back to class

YEAR 6 – ALL ABOUT RUBBISH

Year 6 children will be taking part in a recycling programme – All about rubbish.
